Interior/Flooring Upgrade
We are excited and proud to have finally been able to purchase our first Prevost. We chose a 97 H3-45 Vantare. It is in excellent condition but we would like to change or upgrade a few things in the interior space . We will be starting with the salon and recovering the sofas with leather. My question is what material should we select for the flooring. It currently has carpeting. The kitchen/bath flooring is in great condition and is marble. Should we use hardwood or engineered hardwood? What type/manufacturer? Anyone ever use Mannington Adura (distinctive plank)? We are looking for a lighter flooring with a gray tone. Thanks.

Congratulations on your “H” purchase and welcome to PC. There are now some great floor materials that don’t add much weight and there are a bunch of folks here that have changed out their floors. I’ll let them speak for the material since I haven’t done it yet, but seems like everyone’s goal is to get rid of the carpet.

Truk,we also opted to take out the marble. That alone should be a weight reduction. Easier to do that with the bus than with me!
Bus has been at Jeff’s having lots of maintenance and upgrade work done since October 2014 that I have forgotten the flooring material. It is said to be very durable and I can attest to its being very light weight..

Congratulations on your new coach I think you made a good choice with H3-45 Vantare… our first Prevost was a 1998 H Vantare with 2 slides and we loved it.

Some people use real wood flooring. I do not use it for several reasons…
I do use Mannington Adura. Like many things the quality of the sub flooring is important. I use Russian birch with a special adhesive that we have tested against many different ones. End product you not only want a good looking floor but one that doesn’t cause any squeaks.

Thank you Jeff. I figured that there would be no better time to do the floor than while we are having the furniture removed to be recovered. I like the colors of the Mannington Adura and nice to hear that you have used this product in coaches. The coach has pretty bold colors and I want to tone it down.. Going to use leather on sofas (color Artic) and tone down the valances as well. Everying in the coach is in excellent condition, the interior colors are just not our preference. I will post photos of the before and after job.
I would love to recover the driver area (seats and dash) as that leather is very dark but that will be another job or is re-dying the leather an option? The leather is in extremely good condition. Maybe once I do the salon the other colors will blend in and may be a nice contrast. Also plan on removing the TV box that is mounted just behind the driver and mount a new tv in front upper windshield area.

We also changed out our floor to hardwood. We love it but there are downsides.
We have a 28 lb dog. If you look close you can see fine scratches on floor throughout from his paws. We love the hardwood and the dog and we will live with this. No shoes are allowed to be worn inside our coach if you want to allow shoe usage I would suggest tile or other similar surface
I lost power in my coach garage I did not catch this for 3-4 days. By then all of the ice had melted in the ice maker leaving a pretty good puddle of water on the hardwood. We lost the finish on 2-3 SF of hardwood. With heated floors it would have been a major deal to change out. We had the area refinished and it is hard to tell where the problem was. Lesson learned. Along with making sure gen auto start is off along with Aqua hot when parking inside be sure to empty ice maker and turn ice maker off. If we had a tile floor all I would have had to do is wipe the water up
