Insurance update
Posted by Gary on April 30, 2017 at 9:09 pmNewbie, picking up coach this Friday. Wondering if there is any new updates on insurance from the previous post back in January. Have quotes from Xplorer and ithe company recommended by incredible bank both around 4000 for an 05 marathon. Also have quote from national general who insured my magna. Not sure what people think of national general , and I’m not sure they cover actual value. Pro’s/con’s on any one company based on personal experience?
thanks

I had a recommendation from a Insurance agent I met at ETLC last week who when with Good Sam’s Insurance. He had an agreed value. Said it was GMAC Insurance and was less than he could write for. I’ll be getting a quote from them.

Having had the unlucky opportunity to test my insurance policy once after a bus engine compartment fire I can say with conviction that National Interstate not only knows what a Prevost conversion is, they know what is required to repair damage and if that means getting the coach to Prevost or the converter they will do it. I have used other insurers since, but in every case they knew exactly what a Prevost Conversion was and the repair quality level needed.
My greatest fear with Good Sam is their relationship to Camping World and plastic coaches is that might be the mentality of the adjuster who is going to make your repairs happen. When agents are selling insurance they will assure you you are covered, but when something bad happens and they realize the cost to repair a Prevost to Prevost and converter standards you find out the hard way how they think a repair shop is a repair shop.
If you get a bargain price on an agreed value policy be afraid, very afraid because the last thing you are going to want to do when repairs are needed is to arm wrestle with your insurance company to get your coach repaired to the same standards it was built to. In my case not only did the adjuster agree with whatever Prevost was going to charge to restore the coach, he wanted potential hidden damage repaired just to be sure there would be no surprises after the repair.

Remember boy’s, when you pick that non Prevost experienced cheap insurance company and you have a boo boo because you didn’t see the steel post when you turned the corner, you’re in for a big surprise when the fiberglass claims adjuster shows up at Prevost and learns the repair will be 50,0000. You’ll be contacting your lawyer looking for relief from the 18,0000 settlement your cheap insurance company offers.
Agreed vs Stated Value
An Agreed Value policy guarantees the policy will pay the full insured amount of the vehicle, inclusive of all sales taxes – with no depreciation – in case of a covered total loss. A stated value policy (sometimes called stated amount or maximum limit of liability) does not promise upfront to pay this stated amount. In the event of a covered total loss, it may pay less than the stated amount, as the insurer has the right to pay the lesser of your collector car’s depreciated actual cash value (ACV) or its replacement cost. Also, many insurers that offer stated value policies require periodic appraisals to substantiate the insured amount, adding cost and inconvenience to the client

We always had State Farm(like our home & daily drivers) on our previous coaches(Newmar, Monaco). When we bought the Prevost we took Jon’s advice and went with: Miller Ins. Agency in OR and NationalGeneral.com, underwritten by: Integon Indemnity Corp. We have never made a claim(knock on wood), $1435/yr full coverage in 2017.

Through Explorer RV, the insurance company is National. Or mine is.

thanks everybody
not trying to get lowball policy just wanting to be sure have the right one. I’ll check out GMAC , national. My quote from Xplorer was from Trumphe casualty companygary

Gary,
I had Triumph previously with Explorer, not sure if they’re connected to National Interstate or not, but I had a glass claim and no issues, didn’t effect the diminishing deductible.

Marlene at Miller Insurance shops around and this going around from two years ago, Nationwide was best for price/coverage. When dealing with them last fall from our “emissions testing damage, the adjuster out of Dallas hangs out at Grand Prairie Marathon and Dallas Prevost. They, Nationside” wanted repairs done at Prevost. We were confident Mauricio Rosssti, our adjuster, was knowledgeable about Prevosts.

Found out from Laura at Xplorer, Triumphe is subsidiary of National. Went with that policy. It is National interstate not National General used by Good Sam and FMCA. I know many have praised Miller, but two messages at different times left and never returned my calls.
Nice to hear about the agent in Dallas, picking up the coach there, and with grandkids in the area probably will be looking at them for service/repairs since haven’t heard of any “go to places” in Arizona

Ditto on the “no call returns ” from Miller. I have called multiple times and left messages, email address and phone numbers. All to no avail. Assume they have no interest in my business.

Gary,
Taylor Tours in Phoenix is a great place if you need some service done in AZ.
