Installing new VDO Speedometer/Tachometer
After recommendations on replacing the old, original VDO speedometer/odometer as the odometer portion began being intermittent in working (more not than working), we replaced the VDO with a VDO digital odometer version.
Two questions arise:
First, as the World Transmission is (I think) the source for the odometer signal, one would think that a single lead would be all that is required for pulses. However, the wiring from the Prevost original unit has four wires, as indicated in this picture:
That is in alignment with what is actually installed in the coach (four wires: red, yellow, white and brown).
The VDO “how to wire” instructions provide two versions (below), but only the inductive trigger version requires two wires (the ECU version requires only one wire):
So, is the correct way to wire the inductive sender version [#2 above] (i.e., use two wires going to pin #7 and #8) because two wires are what in the existing wiring harness?
The second question is how does one extract the correct total mileage from the DDEC ECU and use that to either re-program the new odometer or jury-rig a senson on a drill to manually add the mileage?
