  • Installing New Chassis Batteries

Posted by John on July 21, 2014 at 10:56 pm

I will be changing out my 4 group 31 chassis batteries this weekend. Any thing I need to watch for or be awhere of before doing this?

    Thanks

Take pictures before you take anything loose, draw a detailed diagram and label everything. I would never have put it back together correctly with our pictures, a diagram and labels.

Here is the thread when I replaced mine. Oh yeah, tape up your wrenches and sockets to prevent sparks.

I recommend as you take cables each stud wire tie them together then take a shop rag and wrap around the cables, wrap with electric tape. As you remove/install new batteries all cables are protected from accidentally shorting out and you can hook up one at a time without fear of touching cables during the process

Both previous posts are right on.

While the batteries are out take apart the cables at the chassis ground stud, clean up the corrosion and put all the cables on it back together. Consider using battery terminal protectant on the ground stud when it is all together to minimize future corrosion.

A high percentage of the phone calls I have received were because someone couldn’t start the coach after replacing batteries so when you put everything back together check, double check, and then check again.
