IFS A-ARM BUSHINGS
Upper A-arm bushings are toast on my ifs equipped 1999 XLV.
1. My shop manual does not indicate a procedure to R&R A-arm. Anything tricky; looks simple enough.
2.I know that Prevost prefers to sell the a-arm complete, but I’m fairly certain bushing and/or ball joint repair kits are available. Can anyone enlighten me?

Yes bushings can be purchased. You will likely find that these are not stocked.
Are you sure they are bad? You can’t tell by looking at the visible rubber.

As long as the pins are still captured in the bushing they are still good.
Some have pressed out bad bushings and replaced them. Prevost does not favor that approach.

Lowers look fine; the rubber on the uppers is deteriorated and pieces are flaking off as well as the arms no longer appear centered in the bushing but, rather, off to the side. I investigated because I can hear noises in the ft suspension on bumps that sound like bad bushings. Sway bar bushings have been replaced previously and appear ok. Mileage is about 170K.

Some front end noise seems to be the norm after several thousand miles. According to Prevost this is normal. I replaced front shocks, but the sound didn’t go away. I asked Prevost Ft Worth to inspect the front end. There was some rubber deteriation visible on the upper A arm bushings. The tech pointed out that until the joint is almost hitting whatever is next to it (I forget what it was) that the bushings are still servicable. Another Prevost rep said I could lubricate the bushings with dry silicone spray, but wasn’t confident it would correct the noise.
