Ideas needed for convertible dinette
Posted by Jeff on September 25, 2016 at 2:20 pm
Anyone have links, plans or photos of best method or mechanism to replace this dinete with something that converts to a bed ? Its really odd how a 25″ camper can sleep twice as many people as our buse can due to lack of convertible furniture.

Jeff, you don’t seem to have enough space available for a usable bed unless you remove the sofa (or whatever the white upholsetered object forward of the dinette). For an adult to sleep, you will need at least 6 feet, but even more is better since you will have some structure impinging.
I faced the same issues when I bought my bus. I’m not a fan of table/chairs dinette, and mine had a long desk extending from driver’s seat to the kitchen.
You can fix the tabletop to the wall since it matches your counters, and add small banquets, but you won’t get sleeping space. You should be able to fit two opposing jacknife sofas behind the driver and front passenger’s seat. I now have a 8 foot jackknife sofa behind the passenger seat and 6 footer behind the driver. This still gives me room for end tables at the forward end of the sofas and a nice desk area with pull out keyboard tray between the shorter sofa and the kitchen. When open, the jackknife sofas have about 6″ between them. Two people can sleep comfortably and 3 or 4 in a pinch.

Bryan- Thanks for the heads up on the low cost of the hub cap. Duh on me for thinking it was gonna be outrageous.
On the bed size, I know it’s not a very long space but it could sleep a youngster or petite female so even limited use is suitable. There’s a convertible couch that swings up into bunk beds that’s has marvelous action and the dimensions are RV friendly but it’s supposed to be $6k from am EU supplier. Found a similar Greek made one but no reply on the price from my email to the manufacturers yet. Guess what ever gets fashioned for this dinette area is going to look more “camperish” than elegant but I’m willing to sacrifice for the function.
Here’s an article on this awesome bunk bed with more links and a video. 2 of these would allow 4 singles to sleep in the salon if the interior curvature of the bus wall was not inhibative. Maybe it could be made to slide out a couple inches to work. Anyway, I can’t afford this now.

Jeff that bunk bed contraption looks pretty cool, but that price is not.
If you want the traditional dinette sleeping area, you just need to replace what you have with the arrangement you will find in many motorhomes. In my prior bus, a Country Coach, there were two opposing benches at the table with a small lip on the inside edge of the bench. To sleep a kid we would remove the post from the table and rest the tabletop on that lip, filling the space between the benches. The cushions from the back of the benches filled the space on the table and made a nice, but small bed. You can buy ready made dinette sets of this type.
