  • I have not annoyed you in a while …

So, to remind you of my presence, here I go again. PC Maps.

Am I the almost only person on this board who knows of neat places to visit?

There are 11 listed places now and 9 were added by me. For what it is worth, I list only places that I have been to myself and there are some more places I have yet to add.

Anyway, at the risk of having my membership cancelled for being obnoxious, I would like to remind you that this is a bulletin board which thrives on the support of its membership.

Your input is needed! What can be so complicated that you would not have 5 minutes to spare to list a place or two?

Your are on this board every day anyways!

So show your appreciation to what Jon & Tom have given to all of us FOR FREE in the form of PC.

    Go ahead, flame me ….

    Cheers,

    Ronald

    Ronald,

Everything you say is appreciated. I, like Jon, have a flip phone, I don’t text, I’ve been to a lot of places and have no real need to go to the place that you are talking about. It may be great for others and I hope that they use it.

Reading here is my euphoria. From all the threads, I know that Jeff near Knoxville is the place to go if I can’t get to Liberty or a Prevost Service Center. If I want a new toad built, I will go to that place in TN.

No offense to anyone here on PC, I just enjoy reading all the posts and don’t see the need to go to PC Maps (that’s just me).

I think people here realize that Prevost owners have been to the rodeo a few times. They are not needing to look at maps or places to visit as they have done ALL of that already. Many owners here are 30+ years of RV’ing, they share their info by talking to people, not posting on a map as you have seen. It’s hard to change people.

    Safe travels,

    Mark

    Ronald/Mark ( & others)

I’m with Ronald on the maps front and have to partially (respectfully) diagree with Mark. You may not wish to use PC Maps as a resource yourself for whatever reason, but by sharing your experiences, it could and should be one of the main ‘go to’ sources of info. A bit like the campsite review site that has come the defacto place to check out campsite reviews. I recalI a few months ago, someone asking about Calif & the Napa valley and they got loads of replies about not only the obvious places to go from people like me who have just been on the highlights tour, to people like Bryan and Flyyou who actually live there about local-knowledge places to visit and stay (or not stay as the case may be) I was asking, when I first joined the forum, about a directory of ‘preferred workshops’ etc. and that was answered in the form of PC Maps. Not just Jeff, but all sorts of specialists in their particular fields. The other tabs such as the one raised now are a valued bonus.

Here’s my take. Although I’m not from the US, I have been many times, but like a lot of people from the US, only to a few places. (Florida, NYC, California, Vegas, Grand Canyon etc.) It is our plan when we finally get our bus, to hit the road and explore as much of the US as possible over a period of a few years. To that end, I have been putting together an itinery (with pics) which not only is a list of places to see and interesting things to do, but also referrals of places to potentially stay. (quite happy to share via Dropbox, but beware it is 46Mb) It is not complete by any stretch, but there is plenty to go at and it will continue to expand as I continue to read and pick up additonal tips.

As an example, we are likely to be based in TN as its easy to get to from the UK, reasonably central for east or west coast travel and of course, Jeff’s shop is there! However, on a trip to say Glacier NP, I know that we might want to spend a few days at Polson (who wouldn’t) but what about everywhere else in-between? From various blogs, referrals and travel articles, I have built up quite a list of places to not only visit, but also potentially stay. From a camping perspective, these are mostly country/state parks or boondocking places that may or may not have ‘all the shopping’ (50A/elec/water/sewer) as we say, but they are hopefully pleasant places to stay that can also accomodate a bus. Some places will live up to expections, or exceed them and others won’t as I only have others’ opinions, but at least it’s a start. There are the usual suspects on there, such as the National Parks and famous cities, but also other cool towns, cities and monuments that don’t always make the tourist guides. We certainly intend to live by the 300 miles/3pm max rule when travelling with only the miniumum of fixed plans (mainly when we will have to book months in advance for a particular spot)

I am very kean to share these places on PC Maps, but only once we have been and can give first-hand info about the place and its ‘bus suitability’. Not knocking the Polson’s, Pelican Lake’s and LVM’s of the world, but for us, resorts will be the exception rather than the rule.

So, like Ronald, please share your experiences on PC Maps for the benefit of those like me who want to suck up as much info as possible to feed into our location-hungry mouths. I promise, I will return the favour!

Thanks. (and hope you managed to make it to the end)

    Andy nailed it.

The sharing of information by placing it on maps is going to gain greater significance as the maps are populated with members’ suggestions.

I think the maps can eventually become a trip planning tool such that we all can use them to plan overnight stops, fuel stops, places to eat, and places to see. But for that to happen we need members to add items as they experience them.

    For
me, the most important part of the map is the campgrounds. I want to
be able to see the locations of the various campgrounds and
    KNOW that
a PC member has been there and I don’t have to worry about whether my
bus will fit. We all know the term “Big Rig Friendly” is
just fuel for Jon’s garden at many campgrounds.

    So
if you don’t go anywhere in your bus and it sits in one or two
locations, that’s fine, but surely you can take 5 minutes to add
something of value to the map. Especially if you’ve had repairs done
somewhere and they did a good job, you may save someones day if
    problems arise.

    Thanks
for rallying the troops Ronald, hope we make more progress with the
    map.

    Ron,

once i clear my current sprint, i will get back to adding POI’s into the map.

Tom and Jon, would another category of map otems be possible? something like activities? biking, hiking, etc.? basically things we do to work off the sitting around in the fancy RV resorts 😉

Charles, maybe for now “Neat Places to Visit” will be a good starting point for that type of addition to the map. As an example I should denote Hilton Head Island as perhaps the best area for bike riding we have ever been to. I think I will.

Tried to add an RV Park location. Small park with no apparent web site. The system wouldn’t accept my submission because of bad web site address, which is supposed to be optional.

Thanks Tom. That worked. I think this might be the second time you’ve told me to do that.
