I-84 in Connecticut
Heading to Nova Scotia in October from Maryland. Going to attend Celtic Color Fest. First real stops on the trip is “Wild Duck RV park” Portland Maine and Narrows Too resort” outside Acadia – then cross into Canada.
Will need a sleep-break somewhere in the middle of I-84 through CT. Only 3 campgrounds along that stretch – 2 of which review like EPA clean-up sites. Bear Creek in Bristol looked OK.
Any experience with that part of the country?

Some trips you can go up then over, or over and then up to make a special stop. You can always go via I-95 then up to 84 and stop at a Cracker Barrel…always my favorite stop over because of their cardiologist non-approved breakfast. And Prevost friendly…haven’t found a one I couldn’t park with my toad. When the lot is full, I’ve parked along side the back of the building multiple times with the blessing from the manager.

Jimmy, I could cross the Tappan Zee bridge and go up 95 but was worried about traffic and road conditions. Haven’t been that way in 20 years. You have positive recent experience?

Pretty fancy switch plate covers in that particular Cracker Barrel. Whats that about?

The Tappen Zee bridge is the way we always go. The brand new bridge is
open now, no toll booths, all E-Z pass.

Liam and Claudia, Bear Creek was fine as an overnight stop. As reviews mentioned it is dusty so don’t wash coach before going in.
Stay in left lane on Enterprise Ave for final approach as trees need to be trimmed, not the parks road.
As you enter park they have a small circle to go around, a little tight but doable.
Sites are large and electric is good.
We will use them again if need arises.

NY / Conn. border I-84 Exit 2 in Conn. the rest area has a separate lot for RV parking (separate lot for cars and trucks) there is a dump station as well. We usually spend the night there on our trip north to Portland, about 5 hours further.
I would recommend Baley’s campground in OOB.

I think that is the one right after the bridge before Danbury? Stopped there once by accident (long story). We want to get a bit further that day.
We are booked at Wild Duck for 2 nights – should we change to Bayley’s? Just spending the day in Portland for a look-see on the way to Canada.

Phil, arrived at Bear Creek today. Nearly empty. As described and very nice office staff. They say it is hopping when the amusement park is open. Thanks for checking it out for us!

I84 goes for a while (well in NE travel terms), what part of I84 you looking at stopping? If you make it up into MA, there is a Loves/ Sturbridge Isle (used to be an actual truck stop before Loves, FJ, TA made them a thing of the past). Lots of parking, not a lot a traffic after dark. Just after the CT/MA border in Sturbridge MA.
As for rv parks? I would take a truck stop any day in that area… especially for just overnight. Run that generator, blow the carbon out of it and you will get about the same quality of comfort as anything else up there provides.

I can not help with the campgrounds, but I can help you with the recent experience on I-95.
Crossing the new Tappan Zee is a breeze, I-95 along the coast through Connecticut can be a mess with traffic during the day. We went that way in July during mid-morning and it was mid-afternoon before I escaped. Wow!
I came back the same route at night and breezed right through. There are several travel plazas along the route and many of them have truck spots. The road is in decent shape for that part of the world.
