Independence Pass is also closed as a detour. Google, Mapquest, et al were showing this route as alternative, and its very narrow with low overhanging rocks. So officially GPS sees it closed, but actually open, but Not very bus friendly

From Colorado DOT,

“CDOT reminds motorists that commercial and recreational vehicles 35 feet or longer are prohibited. The restriction is due to tight curves, steep inclines and narrow lanes on some sections of the pass, and applies to vehicles and trailers with a combined length of more than 35 feet. Motorists should plan for the restriction to be in place on CO 82 between Mile Point 47.2 (Aspen side) and MP 84.2 (Leadville/Twin Lakes side, about one mile west of the junction with US 24).”

SAFETY ISSUE

CO 82 Independence Pass should not be considered an alternate route, NO CMV or Vehicles over 35′ allowed. Delivery vehicles, RVs and trailers should not use use Independence Pass to bypass the Interstate closure. Route is a narrow, high mountain roadway with tight switchbacks and heavy tourist traffic.

Buddy is right. Independence Pass isnt RV friendly, but a car can go

yes, I-80 is better route right now to approach I-15 in Utah

there is no easy work-around with Glenwood Canyon on I-70 being closed indefinitely

Trying to use I70 go get East or West involves a 9 hour detour through Steamboat Springs. I think it’s about 250 extra miles. Picking an Interstate route North or South is a WAY better choice.
