I 40 condition thru CA.
Posted by Larry on February 21, 2019 at 5:42 pmI haven’t driven I40 in a few years, but last time I was on that road through out CA. and near Flagstaff it was so bad I swore I would not travel on it again.
Anyone have current knowledge of the road?

I was on it in October of 2017 and then April in 2018. There were some sections that needed work, but nothing so bad I would opt for another route.

We ran I40 Albuquerque to Flagstaff last December, it was fine. Ran over to the Grand Canyon with the pickup, again it was fine. That’s as far west we went on 40. Looking at the weather I sure as hell wouldn’t want to try it tomorrow.

We drove out I-40 from TN to AZ in November making our way to CA. We made a sharp left on the I-17 south to Phoenix not making it quite as far to CA on I-40. I don’t recall the road being that bad.
If we did follow I-40 to CA, we would then take the 95 south to the I-10. The 95 is a two lane hilly curvy road (aka ‘ribbon road’).
Depending on which part of CA that you are trying to reach, going south to Phoenix for southern CA is best taking the I-10.
Safe travels,
Mark

Ditto Jon on the condition of I40 in Az. I40 WAS CLOSED YESTERDAY DUE TO SNOW. Unsure of condition today.

Come on Larry
Go make some smoke, the road is shit in spots on both sides of Kingman.
You know how it is President Pelosi won’t fix any roads till all the cheap labor gets here.
