HWH Cylinder leak
My Featherlite has the HWH slides. I have already removed the two main forward cylinders that push/pull the slide in/out and had them rebuilt. That project went fairly smooth.
I now have the small locking cylinder in the lower back of the forward slide starting to leak. Featherlite tells me the lower locking cylinders (that go into the main lower slide rail) were only used in a few coaches, most used just the two upper locking cylinders with no lower locking cylinders.
I have read post where locking pins miss fired and went through the slide or the glass in the slide. I am a bit nervous to try to attempt removing the locking pin to have it rebuilt because I fear getting air in the system that would cause a miss fire of the pins.
Anyone successfully attempted this project?

P.S. The two main rams that push/pull the forward main slide in/out have a balancing ram between the front and back main rams that absorbs any imbalance of the front/back main rams PSI allowing equal push/pull on the front/rear main rams. Locking pins do not have this equalizer, this makes me even more hesitant about attempting a rebuild myself.

I’ve been there when he’s serviced those cylinders and they make it look easy.

Prevost supplied a defective slide air manifold to Jeff for our Marathon. The result was a locking pin firing through the side of the slide. Not funny. Luckily the pin did not go through a window. Prevost paid to repair the slide. The replacement manifold was also defective but Danny was able to rewire the second defective manifold and all was fine. Whew!
So, I was grateful for Jeff’s experience.

Mine is all hydraulic. Not positive but think it’s a different animal as it pertains to the operation.
