Being on the Hook is no laughing matter. I know, I’ve been there three times due to mechanical issues. I assure you at no time was I laughing or for that matter even cracking a smile.
I think the lesson to be learned by all of us from Jon’s unfortunate experience is two fold. First, it can happen to the best of us. Second, we need to be hyper vigilant when driving our coaches for the situation we are in ALL the time.
My wife accuses me of being too focused when she says something similar to did you see that scenery. It is difficult for her to believe I can be so focused on the highway that I ignore the passing scenery. She does tell me what a good job I’m doing when I offer to let her drive for the next 100 miles or so.

I’m glad to see things worked out Jon, it could have been a whole lot worse…on many levels.
Oh and to set the record straight mine was “ah shit”. I believe Truk’s was “oh…….. SHIIIIIIIT” (but we’ve beat the crap out of that one).

Just glad your ok Jon. Accidents are always a shock to the system. I’m glad you were right at Jeffs place. He has a calming influence and a very astute sound mind. Looks like the damage is on the minor side and easily repaired….just get your wallet out.

Avoid injuring others— Take care not to hurt self— property damage—then equipment damage. I think you did the four in order. That has always been my priorities. Good job Jon!!! Everyone walked away!! Bob (ran cranes for 40 years)

Appalling to think what could have happened had Jon not been able to evade the possible impact of that truck! So glad Jon didn’t get hurt (just ignore those aches and pains from your wallet, Jon) but sure would be nice if the Powers That Be could widen that roadway entrance/exit.

If the hill that obscures the view as vehicles approach Horne on 411, or as vehicles approach 411 from Horne was removed the problem would be solved.
Both of us had very little time to adjust after seeing one another. I think the truck was going too fast and swinging too wide so that contributed, but if we both saw each other sooner he could have slowed down and I could have held back my approach to the stop sign.

Jon, I could not recall if there was an earthen berm that limited sight distance or not. I was going to say that Jeff could sneak over there in the dark of night with his tractor equipped with a grading blade and scrape it away. That would open the vista. Problem is likely the berm is on private property so the owner would likely be responsible for removing the berm.
The typical 10’x70′ would not be enough for vehicles entering 411 due to the travel speeds.

I may have missed it, but did the truck stop? or even know he basically ran you off the road?

The truck did not stop and I cannot say he even knew what happened. He may have just assumed I moved over out of his way. It was real dark so he could not see anything other than my lights in his mirror.

The pictures make me think daytime. Jon says it was dark. Did the coach sit straddling the curb overnight?
