– How to Remove Cruisair EVAPORATOR & Motor
Good Morning – I need to replace the bedroom Cruisair evaporator motor as it began struggling to start and now is drawing over 6 amps when its label rating is 4 amps maximum. It has also begun to vibrate.
I have accessed the evaporator yet cannot determine how to remove it.
Is it simply sitting in a separate condensate drain pan?
Or is the condensate drain pan not a separate, unattached component?
As can be seen in the photos, this evap is located in the rear passenger side corner of the bus.
Any and all help appreciated.

I looked at the pictures I have of the unit behind the refrigerator, it appears to be sitting in a separate drain pan. The pan has rubber feet that sit on the plywood under the unit, I am not sure if it is attached to the plywood, but I assume that it is. That is what makes me think it is a separate piece.

I just replaced my front evaporator.
The condensation pan is a welded-on part of the housing. There were four rubber feet under the pan that just sat on the cabinet floor. There are three machine screws (bolts) that secure the fan in the housing; two at the top and one on the side.
Your condensate drain line looks like it could be tough to get at but your top clearance looks sufficient to angle the fan out and back in. If not, you’ll need to find a way to access under the pan. Perhaps the drain line will allow some movement for access.

Thank you Chuck. I have been talking with Jeff about this, our bedroom fan is also making noise and I will be replacing it. I do have access from two sides and hope to be able to replace the fan without removing the unit. If I do need to remove it, knowing the pan is attached is good information to have.

Successfully removed it today… This particular evaporator simply sat in a separate aluminum frame that was secured to the plywood floor. It did have a black semi-sticky material on it that reminded me of sound-deadening material with slight adhesive properties.
I was able to pull the drain line up through the floor. Fortunately, it was easy to see and remove it from where it dropped down into the engine compartment.
Now the fun part… Trying to find a replacement motor.

Makes me curious about our bedroom unit, I will have to look at it when we get our bus back from Tradewinds sometime next month. We are having some body work and painting done.
Let us know what you find on a replacement motor, I imagine that Grainger will have one. I bought the two condenser fans that I replaced from Grainger.
