The 8V92 is a great engine and the engine was widely used. I don’t think Liam meant it was too loud, but that its distinctive exhaust sound would scare the young mechanics that don’t have the skills to work on them.

You never know when things will go south on these older coaches. I’m the second owner of a 86,000 mile 8V92TA and just got mine out of Stewart Stevenson today, Blower Seals leaking causing oil spitting out the AirBox Drains. Rubber and seals get old on these machines.

    Hey Glen,

What’s the difference between the 8V92 and the 8V92TA?

An 8V-92 with 9A90 injectors will have 430 hp

An 8V-92 TA with 9G90 injectors will have 450hp

An 8V-92 TA with 9G00 injectors will have 500hp

Harry the TA stands for Turbo and After Cooled, extra horsepower. Mine has it and sure yours does also.. I guess the standard 8V92 just had the blower.

Jon is correct, no one local had a clue and actually acted annoyed I even asked. I live in Hagerstown which is one of the country’s largest cross-dock hubs. Home to Mack Truck. I was naive in thinking that with dozens on truck repair shops in the area maintenance would be easy. To my surprise, no one has pits anymore so busses are a different beast. Only shop with lifts was a fire truck repair facility and they basically said I couldn’t afford them.

I cant say enough about Tom and Elite. They act like pulling a bus engine is changing batteries in a remote control!
