Jon’s recent post about checking invertor fan operation got me thinking about other non-obvious things to check or do on a reasonably regular basis. We all know about tires and oil levels etc. as well as other things such as running Webasto/Aqua-Hots & generators regularly to keep them in good order. Is there anything else that should be included on this list?

Off the top of my head I could think of the following:

    Hub or other oil leaks

Listen for air leaks/check joints with soapy water

Visual belt, hose, air bags (inc. generator) & other rubber components inspection

    Bleed air aux air tank

    Regular generator use

    Monthly Webasto/Aqua-Hot cycle

Monthly invertor (max load) use to test fans

    Annual invertor fan clean

    AC clean

That is one of the reasons for creating a maintenance schedule that is coach specific. If all we had to maintain was the Prevost chassis their schedule is complete and easy to follow. But we have a generator, a Webasto or Aquahot, and we have a house all of which have maintenance requirements as well. Then to add to the confusion some maintenance is triggered by miles. Oil changes for example are scheduled based on miles.

Some generator service is based on hours.

Some house maintenance such as A/C filters is based on the calendar.

So even if you begin with a brand new coach all of the things that need maintenance need to be tracked and without some means of scheduling the service event and remembering when it is due next things are going to be overlooked.

You will have to write this one in: Water filters – system and refrigerator, a/c filters, plus cleaning the dust and lint off the back and bottom of the refrigerator.

    Jon raises a good point,

We’ve all maintained our residences, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roof, pool, appliances, A/C, water heater, furnace, house exterior, landscape, etc., but besides the generator (which I never had in my house), what else would be “unique” to maintaining in the “house” part of a Prevost, i.e. awnings?

Each coach is different. Some awnings such as the automatic Zip Dee awnings with arms require frequent attention. Some awnings don’t require anything. It all depends on how a coach is equipped. It is exactly like a house in the respect there are a lot of things that need to be done.

If you have a manual ZipDee main awning, it may have to be tightened every so often. Fairly easy to do, and you can tell when it is needed when it does not roll up itself the last 3 feet or so.
