  • House Battery Voltage / 50DN Regulator Problem?

Posted by Jeff on June 27, 2020 at 12:57 pm

Have four house batteries and notice the following voltages WITH ENGINE RUNNING:

28.2 when checking the four batteries for “24 volts”

    and

14.1 when checking the four batteries for “12 volts”

With the engine off, and connected to shore power, they are:

    25.4 and 12.7

Are these voltages ok, or MIGHT THIS INDICATE A 50DN Regulator Problem?

    THANK YOU! Jeff

Assuming the chassis batteries are the same voltages they are a little high. I believe the Prevost service manual calls for about 27.7.

I am speculating on this but I think the reason might be is because as temps go up, charging voltages should go down, and since the chassis batteries in some coaches pick up some heat from the engine a lower voltage is preferred.

It might be because an H3 protects the chassis batteries a little from the heat because of their placement.
