House battery charger
What is the purpose of having a seperate battery charger in addition to the Trace inverter/chargers? I have eight 8D batteries and have a Schauer 24V 20 amp charger. Is this because the inverter charger does not have enough capacity to charge all the batteries and is something that should be used only when needed (after dry camping)? Jim

Jim,
That is for your chassis batteries and has nothing to do with the house side or inverters.
When parked for long periods of time you can turn it on while on shore power to charge the chassis side so your bus will start.
Be very carefull you don’t leave it on while underway or for long periods of time. There are chargers out there that will cook your chassis batteries in a short period of time.

Are you sure it is for the house and not the chassis. You are correct in that with the inverters it is redundant and possibly not even going to provide the charging protocol the inverters will.

I have followed the charger wires to one of the terminals of the house batteries. The charger is in the same compartment as the house batteries and thats what was so perplexing.

No, not that I’m aware of.

You were on to something, because it appears a red wire goes to the house batteries and after an isolator another red wire goes towards the back of the coach too.
So I guess if I did not have access to shore power I could at least plug this charger in to keep the chassis and house batteries charged.

Ok but check it. Put a meter on your chassis batteries at rest and then turn on the charger and see if your 13 plus and 26 plus then do the house side too with the meter at rest and charger on to see if the isolater is working.
I have never seen a charger like that on the house side but could be. Make sure your unplugged when you check these readings.
