Hot water / Webasto
Posted by Archived on March 27, 2017 at 8:25 amI only have one webasto on / off switch which is a paddle switch on the dash. And two thermostats for heat. One in the galley and one in the bedroom.I do not need heat, just Hot water. Will it produce hot water by turning the switch on the dash on ? If the valves are open that is.
Thanks in advance,
Safe travels,

Yes it will Rocky, just leave the ON/OFF switches on the thermostats OFF. It will pre-heat the engine too if you have that loop open.

Don, So there is two loops out of the webasto then ? One to water heater and another for engine pre heat ?
Thanks, Safe Travels, Rocky

Jon or Jeff are the best ones to answer that question Rocky. All my valves/loops are open all the time. I’ve never tried to figure out how to turn on and off all the various loops.

Your Webasto heats the engine when on for your vintage Liberty, there are no buttons, but I’m relying on memory here.

Rocky, there are good old fashion mechanical valves on the engine, near the Webasto burner, in the water bay/near the water heater, and probably more. Mine has tags/labels hanging from the valves.
Hopefully Jon and/or Jeff, or some other expert will chime in here.

Depending on the coach vintage and model Liberty located control valves in various locations, but they marked them all so you can turn whatever loop you need open or closed.
I leave mine all open because if it is cold enough for me to want to run the Webasto to stay warm in the coach, I probably want a warm engine for when I start it.
I can heat water with the Webasto, but if I am running my Webasto I am also running the generator because all the various heat exchangers plus the Webasto circuilating pump are drawing a lot from my batteries. If I am running the Webasto it is plenty cold out because I will use the heat pumps until it gets into the mid thirties.

I was trying to picture how the hot water would work if i did not need heat. All my valves were open, Just had a new electric water heater placed in bay. So i would have to check the valves. I have seen a webasto controller and maybe it is a timer. Don’t remember , But i knew that i did not have one.
? 1) Does the burner ignite from the start batteries ?
? 2) I take from Jon’s info that the circulation pump and the exchangers draw from the house batteries. Is this correct ?
Thanks,
Safe travels,

The Webasto system current draw is from the house batteries.
I would never run the Webasto just to heat water. So much easier to just use the electric heat using shore or generator power. Once it is heated it stays hot for a long time.
