Horn Mystery
My new to me 2000 Royale has 4 air horns that appear to be original as they have a Royal Coach on the front facing cap. When I first gave them a blast it was real disappointing to hear a train whistle sound come out of them – and ever since it’s been kind of embarrassing to use them for the casual ‘howdy’ … or ‘see-ya next time’ …
However, on a trip back from E. TN yesterday I had to REALLY use them when I was slamming on the brakes as someone pulled out in front of me – and surprisingly an entirely normal deep air horn sound was accompanying the train whistle!
Amazed that I had a real air horn I then tried repeatedly to get the normal sounding air horns to come back on, I even tried while putting on the brakes. Nope, same wimpy train whistle.
Is it possible that the brakes have to be engaged at a certain level before the other set of air horns will come on? Or is there some sort of motion sensing capability that allows them to come on? Surely they’re not that smart?

Get Jeff to look at them. They should have the full train sound all the time.

Hi Clint, I had a similar issue on my bus, mine didn’t work when i got it home. All 4 of mine were packed full of clay from the mud dobbers. If your steering wheen center is like mine, a light press activates the Prevost Horn under the front bumper, and a full send activates my 4 train horns which are amazing. There is a solenoid under the steer compartment that activates them. If you look close there might be a manual override on the valve you can use to test them. Good luck, and make sure everyone is ready if they go off under testing.

On our coach, pushing the horn button gives one horn sound, more like an auto horn, and pressing harder sets off the air horns. Have you tried something like that?

I have a dash switch that changes from a normal car horn to the air horns.
When air horn is selected, I’ve tried lightly pressing and then really laying into it – both give me the same wimpy train whistle. It was only during heavy braking while I was laying into it did I actually hear the other set of air horns come on.

Clint maybe when you were laying on the brakes it was the train horn was imaginary?

99 Liberty, 4 horn options. Car type horn, air horns, and train horns. There is also an Ultimate horn with bunch of sounds that play out of speaker behind the bumper.
By the time I figure out what one I want to use, the person I want to honk at is long gone.

We use our Air horns mostly in tunnels.
