Home Builders What Ya working on?
Posted by Bob on March 5, 2014 at 7:36 amHaven’t heard much over here lately. Tooooo cold! I’ve been working inside doing final uphlostry fastening to ceiling and dressing up some rough edges, A few warm days put coolant in engine(no leaks) so not any excuses to start left–still no hurry. Looking at floor color to go with cherry cabinets. Judy likes the lite Grey Bamboo–walls are a uphlostered golden/brown fabric. Got rivets from local supplier for new siding-3/16by 1/4 stainless ploshied 24 cents each. I need to get a final parts list and post here in case you guys have extra of stock things I still need. One thing I need is the expansion strip for the rubber for three side windows. Bob

Harbor burnished oak for salon and tuscan amber for kitchen/ 1/2 bath area. Today also under dash and across entire front of bus added another layer of insulation covering up all exposed steel tubes (they transmit allot of heat and cold). Now ready to reinstall all the blowers and finish dash and pannel covering. Ready for SPRING! Bob

We have allot of shows coming up so going to get mechanical part ready first. just working on some interior details while it’s still cool. No heat in shop.! Paint I will do Later this year as I don’t like the present color or graphic . That’s sort of a being in the mood thing then the idea hits!! Prob stay what it is for now: and danaged area primer or just a lite coat of existing color till re-do. Forgot to mention enlarged my AC evaporator for drivers Ac to 30,000 btu to go with new Engine driven compressor I installed on the engine. About 1 1/2 times more coils than stock unit that was in the Factory Entertaniner. XLE Bob

Hey Bob,
It’s been warm (70-80F) all winter here in Florida, but that hasn’t helped me get a lot done. There are just too many interesting things to do that distract me from working on my conversion project. I have, however, managed to sand some of the ugliness off this old bus in anticipation of representing us homebuilders next to all those shiny store bought beauties at the spring rally just over three weeks from now. I’ve tried hard to hide the fact that way back in the last century, this coach had seats and luggage racks in it. The front and rear facelifts now make it look a lot like a 2013 model motorhome instead of an old charter coach. Fairing in the awnings and replacing those big ugly rubber bumpers with prettier ones made a big difference. I like the better visibility of two windshields instead of four as well. I’ve still got to add a wing to the front fairings to complete the scoop look. If I can stay away from the beaches for a while, I may be able to put my Corian shower together and install enough new plumbing to be able to take showers again and avoid smelling like a goat at the rally. Bob, I’ve now got a used black Jacuzzi tub for you or anyone who thinks they might want one… free! With a lot of insulation still showing, the interior is not ready for prime time yet.
Here’s my first attempt at posting a photo:

Looks like your both enjoying the build and life! After all that is what it is all about.. Really sharp!! Bob

The problem is that when you get a coach all gussied up, you’ve gotta spend time waxing and spit-polishing when you should be building cabinets or something. Ya just can’t win! On top of that, you’ve got to figure out how to handle the folks who are sure you just won the lottery and now start campfires with $100 bills.

Looks great Ron, but I’m concerned about that goat smell at the Rally.:) Should I get you key to the LazyDay’s upper management special shower and steam bath?
Looking forward to seeing you and the H…..

Ron,
I hope you allow all of us to hear about the path you have travelled creating your coach since we first had a chance to see it in Santa Fe. It looks great.

Tom, I’ll pass on the key to the executive outhouse with the 24 carat showerhead, but if I’m not able to jerry-rig a drain that squeezes between two big conduits, through a bulkhead, over a bay door gas shock and into my grey water tank, I may be looking for directions to the maintenance guys’ shower. Signs in spanish won’t help me much. With my limited education, I won’t even be able to read the spanish graffiti on the walls!
Jon, Bob will back me up when I say homebuilders are rarely at a loss for words when asked to talk about their passion. The biggest problem is trying to shut ’em up long after folks’ eyes glaze over. Life has been an adventure since POG II. The coach is about half done. Estimated completion is around 2040, but projects usually take me longer than I expect.

Ron looks great it is totally different than it did in Oshkosh last year, Nice paint job, see you at Lazy Days.

Hish, don’t blow my cover. The bill collectors are looking for an old maroon and white coach with all the clear coat peeling off. 🙂 ‘Lookin forward to seeing you and Sue again soon.

Ron;
Do you mind starting another thread and posting a few more pictures. You did a outstanding job.
I know that there are aftermarket noses being made, I haven’t seen any rear engine covers.. Did you go with all factory Prevost? Awesome job….
Are you running 365 up front?

Has come to the rescue with the locking strips for the side windows.. Thanks in public!! have thanked in person but sometimes everyone needs to know sharing. One point Rob has allot of pictures of his project but as I it is hit and miss on succesful posting. Some of us just don’t get it..Sorry guess we are just better at doing other things mechanical and building.. Could we E-mail them to some one and that person translate them to something exceptable to post on the forum? Bob
