I do not know what it is but at one time somebody said weight but is is such a small difference I just don’t get it either!!! Maybe the 2016 or 2017 have changed but I doubt it

My grandfather started a construction business in 1932 so I’m 3rd generation. We’re not plumbers by trade but I’ve been around construction my whole life.
Here’s the insight a long time plumber shared with me as I consider a Liberty Coach. Any material used for sewers will eventually fail over time. Sewer lines have been copper, cast iron, vitrified clay and PVC. Buildings today use some cast iron but mostly PVC for drain or soil lines. Copper water lines have been replaced with pex tubing to save money aluminum is pretty expsenive by comparison. I’m also on a sewer authority and the authority spends hundreds of thousands of dollars lining sewer lines to avoid the tens of millions of dollars to replace the sewer lines.
I spoke with Jeff and Liberty they both have replaced holding tanks. Neither knew why it was only some not all. Liberty did make a change to thicker walled discharge pipe a some point maybe 2008? I can’t remember what year they told me. Mostly, it’s peoples habits how much bleach, drain cleaner, detergents and soaps they use. All of these products have trace amounts of hydrochloric acid and sodium hyroxide solutions in them. Heck even gastric fuilds have some hydrochlric acid all of which can distroy aluminum. Did or does the coach sit for months with the holding tank quarter of half full? Aluminum is a strong light weight and recylcable material. Stainless steel maybe better but my guess is anodized aluminum would very close. And again it won’t last for ever either.
Bottom Line: Owning and driving any Prevost makes us BLESSED!! So Enjoy!!!

If anyone can show me any aluminum waste water part of a plumbing system I will shut up about aluminum tanks. Those that think this is just a little corrosion that varies if we use anything other than soap and water, guess again. Anything on either side of a PH of 7 will eat aluminum. Included in that is water which has a PH dependent upon the source and how it was treated at the water plant.
I agree the use of aluminum was prompted by the need to reduce weight. Liberty is very good about staying within the axle weight limits, even when the coach is loaded with the owner’s belongings. When I replaced my tank I had it made of stainless steel that was 1/2 the thickness of aluminum. I had the tank double welded at the seams, both inside and out. That put the empty tank 30 pounds approximately heavier than the aluminum tank. Then I removed all the doors that are decorative behind the bay doors and I ended up with a net reduction in weight.
