Two years ago we drove from just north of LA to Portland on 101 in our Airstream 345 (345′) with a jeep in tow. I would do the same in my bus. Great trip. Highlight was the Humbolt State park in the redwoods.

I have driven the bus towing a car from just north of Crescent City to Hwy 20 at about Calpella. It was a beautiful drive with no problems for the bus. The drive across 20 by Clear Lake was beautiful too.

I have made the ride on the back of a Harley Davidson. We crossed Death Valley at daylight and hit 101 south of San Francisco and road it to Astoria Washington. I loved the ride but didn’t pay much attention to if I saw any motorhomes. I was a bad biker and motor homes were for old people…… Right. I would love to do it in the bus if you all say it can be done!!

Highway 101 is a freeway for most of its length and is fine for a bus its entire length. It is Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, which is length limited from San Simeon north to Monterey. In terms of scenics, I think Highway 101 is the better alternative to I-5, which also traverses California north to south.

You should be alright. I left Marathon and went down 5 then cut over to 199 into CA then all the way down to Fortuna which was my next stop.

I am in a 40ft bus, but was pulling a 24 ft stacker…that adds a whole other dimension. I probably would not do it again unless I really needed to go that route (and in this case I did).

No super close calles but last section of 199 a bit sketchy around some corners, and maybe a few more tight ones on 101. Do-able but a lil more stressful.
