Hi all
Posted by Brett on October 25, 2015 at 1:31 pmJust wanted to stop and say hi. We don’t own a Prevost yet, but I have been reading everything I can find to learn about them. We have been coachers for several years and currently have a 45′ 2007 American Coach Eagle.I retired from the military last year and since then health has turned a bit south making my Prevost dream a bit harder, but we are still trying.
We are planning to sell our S&B in the spring and start fulltiming for a while so that we can relax and see some things. We have worked our way up through the coaches with a Post being the ultimate prize but we shall see.ove to have somewhere between a 02-05 with at least a couple slides (becasue it will be home). think I would like the H3 becasue it appears it has comsiderably more basement space.g I am seeing though is that most coaches have practically every bay filled with something we don’t need…IE sinks, stoves…etc
Anyway, saying hi.

Thanks for the welcome. As my wife usually says, “he don’t need any help spending money”.LOL
I have looked at coaches online until I am tired of looking. The bad thing is not knowing a good one from a bad one OH and the money it takes to get one. We may start taking some trips I guess to look at a few, we’re between Houston and Dallas, a few to look at in the area I guess.

Welcome to PC. As a potential buyer we are all going to be thrilled to see someone else spending serious money to get a bus.
Looking at pictures is a good start, but you need to see them in person to get a sense of what the photos show.
You have the potential to really get confused about what to buy unless you can define your budget and then your needs based on how you intend to use the coach. We’ve all gone through it and we are all willing to answer your questions, and sometimes we will even provide correct answers.

The only thing we know for sure.We will be fulltiming. We will spend 30 days or so at a stop and then move on to another. Probably 10K miles per year or so. With that we want two (minimum) slides, and storage space inside and out. We intend to keep the coach for MANY years.lol I think I have said that about every one of them, we have been working our way up the ladder.lol
Beyond that nothing else sorted out.
There seems to be a half dozen Prevost dealers (predominantly Prevost anyway) there may be more but I have not found them yet. If there is any specific one I need to STAY AWAY from, could someone PM me and let me know please?

Look at the Coaches for Sale here on PC, you can have confidence that Dealers and Brokers are good at what they do.

Brett, a forum is not the place to list negative remarks about a dealer, but as Tom says the converters and dealers listed on our site know the Prevost conversions and bring expertise to the table. In general terms I would be somewhat concerned in a transaction that involves any dealer that does not have a great depth of Prevost experience. I am not saying that because I don’t trust them, but because as a buyer you need to be dealing with sellers that are actually capable of providing you with information about the coach prior to the sale, and after the sale to be able to provide you with some training in the use of the coach and its systems.
As someone with no pervious Prevost experience you still do not know what you don’t know. I’ll let other members agree or disagree with that comment, but it was made in the context that there is a lot to learn and you can really get your head messed up if somebody is selling a coach and making up stuff as they go along.
But having said that the entire burden is on you. If you do your homework, if you learn all you can from the forum, from articles and from looking at coaches you are going to be in very good shape when it comes to evaluating a coach. They are so much more than just a pretty paint job and tire dressing. They are a complex assembly of parts and systems and if you do not do your homework you can quickly find yourself owning a coach that needs a lot of money for repairs.

Jon, thanks for the reply. I was NOT wanting anyone to shame any dealer on an open forum. That’s why I specifically asked that if anyone had a negative to say please tell me in private.
You are also correct in “I don’t know what I don’t know”. I read, questions, read some more, give up for awhile, then start all over…LOL
-
I said that because you have not enabled anyone to contact you via your email. You can use your profile to enable people to contact you privately, then they can click on your user name to get your email address.
BTW, we are not opposed to any remarks, positive or negative as long as they are supported by facts, especially if they are going to help our members. We are comfortable with those listed on our site. Personally I am not comfortable with a seller who does not know the coach, private or commercial, because in my experience you cannot get straight information from someone who is just flipping a coach.

Jon, fixed email address.I thought it was set up already, my appologies.
I completely understand about a dealer KNOWING the coach. I guess my issue is that if I don’t know, then I may not know a true line from a BS line; however, I am pretty sharp and can read through most BS. I just look back when I bought my first coach and compare it to my knowledge now and realize that I knew very little back then when I THOUGHT I knew alot…LOL I can’t afford to not know again if that makes sense.

2X what Jon said. The seller of the coach we bought had owned it five months. Was adament he didn’t buy it to flip it. I was born and raised in a small town in NE Wisconsin, my private school education ended with the eighth grade …. but I knew different. The seller had NO idea what he had and consequently trying to get him to understand that having NO maintenance records lowered the value of the coach,
Good luck with your search.
