  • Hey Fred, I buillt my own

Since I couldn’t steal Fred’s ramps out of the El Camino, I built my own. I have to send royalties to Gerald (threegreens) though, I copied his. Suckers are heavy, I notched them so I can lift and stack them with my forklift.

Look good Dan. The Red Head could have built you some out of 1″ steel in her welding shop, then you could really complain about them being heavy. I don’t have a fork lift, so use a furniture dolly. You can also add some handles on the side, makes adjusting / moving and picking up easier than trying to slip your fingers under the end.

Nice! I mounted steel handles on top to lift them and maybe help avoid driving off them. I also use a furniture dolly to move them. I use them once or twice a year to lube the bus and change oils. Not as nice as a pit but gets the job done.

One word of caution. Take it real slow going up on the ramp. Have somebody spot you. You don’t want to drive the duals off the ramp. I don’t think the tag axles/tires could handle the entire rear weight. It might be a good idea to mount a couple of those heavy duty rubber chocks from Harbor Freight to prevent over driving the ramp.

Back onto the ramps. If the tag drops off there is almost no problem.

EVEN WITH RAMPS THE CHASSIS NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED UNLESS ALL THE AIR IS OUT OF THE AIR BAGS. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE CHANCES.

Jon is right. (Gads that hurts to say that). There are some scissor points up in there that if the bags fail will cut you in two. Ramps PLUS blocking up is the ONLY safe way and only takes a few minutes, whereas death is forever.

Agreed, blocking is required. I’m going to mount a 2×4 on the ends for a stop, hinge it so it flips over for flat storage.

You will not even feel a 2 X 4 until you are past it. If you cannot get a helper to guide you use something you can see in your mirror to alert you of your position. Maybe tape a rod to the bus that will contact something you can see in a mirror.
