i know most people take out the factory air conditioning for a place to put a generator. is it also worth takejng out the heating system on the other side and what do i do for heat in the bus if that is gone.

i work for cummins western canada and get a real good deal on espar heating systems. i am wondering if that is the way to go.

The early vintage buses used Espar and then were slowly changed over to Webasto and Aquahot. Don’t know anything about Espar, but there should be some folks here on the forum that have them.

Liberty coach is now using espar heating systems on their new coaches. They stopped using them a number of years ago because of problems (not sure of what the problems were at that time) but have started to use them again.

We had this system in our 2012 H-45, it was slow to heat, but worked well once it was on for a while.

they are small units , ours was located above the tag axle on the drivers side. One interesting fact is the exhaust pipe can only be 4 feet long so ours emptied behind the tag wheel, so you are limited in that respect.

I am a dyed in the wool advocate of over the road air and even if I was to convert a former seated coach that is one system I would never remove. Unless the owner used a converted coach as a park model and it sat in a campground most of the time, its value is not replaceable. With careful design the generator can share the bay with the water and holding tanks as Liberty has done for year. That not only keeps axle weights within limits, it also conserves forward bay space.

It is a rare owner of a coach with over the road air (Prevost OTR) that regrets having it.

Pete….on WOG (Wonderlodge Owners Group) a group of Wonderlodge & Blue Bird owners, talk about Espars a lot and how they fix/maintain them, perhaps a look see and contact there will help you if you’re dead set for Espar heat

Think the cost of a new condenser will be very hi from Prevost. Remove the condenser and have a fin tube coil company build you a new one. it’s commonly done on building AC systems and should save you a lot.
