  • Help? Manual ByPass Switch

Posted by Davy on September 1, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Vantare’s electrical system does not have inverter circuits and non-inverter circuits. Every 110-volt circuit runs through the inverters. That is different from some/most other converters IF I understand correctly.

I think I am having inverter troubles. My line voltage has been running low when I run the generator, but if you check the voltage at the generator, the voltage is fine.

I have a Manual ByPass Switch for each inverter. According to the label, the normal setting is straight up which is off. To the left is generator and to the right is utility. Here is a picture.

If I turn the switches to generator, does that bypass the inverters completely? If not, what exactly does the switch do?

We will be on the generator the next ten days and it is hot and humid. The line voltage runs so low at times that I am barely able to run one roof AC and we are going to need at least two, not to mention the water heater part of the time and fridge.

I need information if you have it.smile Thank you!

When the switch is in the generator position it bypasses the inverters.

    Thank you, Jack.

Can I switch it over with the generator running or is it better not to have neither the generator or shore power hooked up when switching?

As a reminder, we are using the generator only for several hot and humid days. Shore power is not an option for at least another week.

Once the sun was down this evening, we turned off the Air Conditioners and other electrical draws. I went to the inverter bay.

My wife used the #1 inverter to turn off the generator. (This is how we usually turn the generator on and off.) Once the generator shut down, I switched both Manual Bypass Switches to Generator and my wife turned on the generator inside with the Start button.

The AC2 light flashed on both inverters and then went solid like normal. Both inverters showed the amps used by each inverter as normal and the voltage was still too low.

As far as I could tell, the Manual Bypass changed nothing.

    Any ideas?

Do you have any Coach Electrical Schematics?

No, I do not have any converter side schematics, unfortunately.

I would start looking for loose/bad connections; While voltage can measure correctly, when it’s loaded with current the voltage usually drops
