  • Heating Issues- back heat works, front takes 2+hr

Posted by Shirl on February 17, 2025 at 10:41 am

I drive a 2017 H3-45 Prevost. Earlier this year I was having issues with my passenger heat. Prevost’s solution was to hook up the preheater to go on with the rear heat. That cured the passenger heat problem. Since then I’ve been having issues with the driver’s heat and defrost. It takes 2 plus hours in low temps for heat to finally start working. My mechanic said he talked to prevost and they said it’s just because of the low temps. He said to go out and start the bus 2hrs before passengers get on. On every bus I’ve driven the heat, both passenger and drivers, heats up gradually. With this problem, the bus is running for 2 plus hours blowing ice cold air and then goes from ice cold to totally hot in about 10 seconds. This is not normal. Seems like a valve is sticking out something and won’t let the heat get through. My defrost is my main concern as I can be warm with the passenger heat. My mechanic has settled on this being normal, but I question this. Not only is it not normal that it doesn’t heat up gradually, but it didn’t happen until the “fix” was done with the preheater for the passenger heat. They may not even be related and just coincidence. My worry is one of these really cold mornings it’s just not going to work at all. Yesterday it took 2 hours 20 minutes before it started blowing hot air. Pax heat was up to 77 and temp gauge was up to 170 in an hour. Outside temp was only low 20’s. Any input would be appreciated.
