    Good Morning from Sturgis, On our way out here we developed a issue that seems to have gone away . We left S.C. Thurs morning and over 2 days drove 1,756 miles in 90 plus temps . After roughly 900 plus miles on Thurs we stopped and shut down the OTR and started the Genny . When I tried to run the rear air she went to Hi/P5 . Now I know this is a low Freon code however prior to shutting down the air was cold . I also had high voltage of 127 on the leg .

    So I shut everything down and went to inverters without Genny and had 121 v on each leg . After about 1 hr of messing with it I restarted the genny turned the air on and it worked so we could sleep .

    So did the days ride just overheat everything or do I need to look elsewhere for a issue ?

    Other than the high voltage issue, it sounds like typical cruise air performance in hot, dry conditions. Out West, if it’s over about 95 and/or the coach is in the sun, the cruise airs will shut off.

    When i reach my destination for the evening, if appropriate, I start the gen and cruise airs with the engine and OTR still on to help until things get cool enough for the cruise airs. Often when I stop at night, I’m idling on OTR for quite a while.

    If the coach has been sitting, shading the surface beneath it and then the CAs are turned on the air being drawn through the condenser unit is cooler. But if the surface is heat soaked it is radiating hot air, and that hot air doesn’t allow the condenser to operate.

    The short term solution is to hose down the surface beneath the condenser intake under the coach. That drops the incoming air temp and prevents the HiPs situation.

    We were in Jackson Calif 2 weeks ago and when we got there it was 89 degrees and later it was 110 degrees and 1st time using the Hughes Autoformer, with Autoformer plugged in and boosting all 3 roof ac’s running my AC volts were 118v on leg 1 abd 119v on leg 2, I’ve been in 110 degrees before at around 112 to 113 volts with out Autoformer and ac’s did not work nearly as well, I was impressed with the performance of 22 year old Dometic ac’s.Does not matter if roof or basement ac’s if you have low volts and high amps it will struggle.

    al perna, the HI P5 is a indication that the CruiseAir has reached its “High Pressure” safety switch threshold of 400 psi probably because of the HOT ambient conditions. This opens the electrical circuit to prevent damage to the CA. Then once things cooled down a bit it will operate.

    There also a chance it may be over serviced. If a CA is over serviced(too much freon) the problem will happen at lower ambient temperature condition than if it was perfectly serviced. I over service one of mine once and it happened(HI-P5) at ambient temps that should not have caused a problem. I took care of it before the next trip and learned a lesson.

    Thank you for the reply . Seems like another reason to stay away from CA units . I’m thinking of doing a renovation in the fall and roof airs will be high on the list . Thank’s again for the responses
