I don’t have a newer coach such as yours but I know of no vehicles that do what you are wanting.

Either high or low beam but not both.

Mine do what yours do when I go from high to low, they are a blueish tint till they warm up, only a few seconds.

The low beams are wired to go off when you turn on the high beams, I’am told.

When I changed the headlights on the 05 Marathon to Xenon I had a choice to have all four (4) headlights to aluminate on high. Experienced aircraft landing lights the first time I used them, wow.

Doing the headlight up grade I had the wiring upgraded to keep the day time run lights on when the ignition key is turned on. No other exterior lighting comes on.

If you want all four headlights on in high position that can be done with a wiring change.

The improvements made in headlights in the last 5 years is amazing.

My sprinter van does what you want. When you turn on the high beams the low beams stay on. My sedan does the same thing. So there are some vehicles that work that way.

I’m going to try to figure out how to re-wire my bus lights to work that way too since I put in HID’s n my low beams. I feel like turning HID’s on/off/on/off too much will shorten their life.

Anyone do do this already and have any input on how to do it?

That’s
a bad deal for sure and probably a safety factor.. When you click off
the high beams you should have full tilt low beams without any
degradation. Are those stock lights or were they upgraded?

Stock Prevost lighting as far as I can tell. I thought it was weird too. My cars that have HID do not shut off the low beams.

Both our previous XL and present H were wired from stock that way. Had to re-wire each as we upgraded headlites. Geo.

Thanks for the info. I will check with Prevost to make sure. I would prefer the low beams to stay on. I will see if there is a way to do it that does not require lots of wiring modifications.

Mark, as the pictures show, when my high beams are on, so are the low beams, which are HID. When lights are off, and coach is in gear, the high beams stay on as Daytime running lamps. This is the way it came from Prevost. I know mine is older, but maybe this helps.

Mark, I have a friend with an 06 H, and his works the same as mine too.

The vehicle electrical system is wired and programmed to have low beams or high beams only. Engineering tells us that if all four are on then they have too much luminosity (too bright) for us to make the coach like you want. That being said this may not cover all the years we have produced headlight systems. Plus there have been a lot of conversions to HID or Xenon lights by third parties that allow the 4 lights to be on.

As a manufacturer we are forced to build to required specifications at the time the shell is made. So if we do a retrofit of lights we stay with the engineering specification for that shell year. Third parties may be told to wire the lights this way but may not.

There are stated light intensities for any type of vehicle and Prevost builds to that requirement. Your lights are working as they were programmed to work from the factory.

Just a little update on the post I made last evening.

The programming to cut off the low beams when the high beams were chosen on the H 3-45 platform only came with the use of the TYC lamp in 2010. It is used only in the H3 45 shells. On the X series we still use the Hella lamp and the low beams stay on with the activation of the high beams. Hopefully this will help!
