  • HEADHUNTER TOILET WOES

Posted by Archived on September 2, 2017 at 7:39 am

Well, we finally have taken some time off and trying to enjoy our bus. Day one was spent replacing the Mach 5 water pump. Now, the Headhunter toilet will not flush. Nothing happens when the flush button is depressed. I suspected that I had air in the water system caused by the pump replacement, but clearing all air from the water lines has not helped.

I have read about a manual flush feature, but I cannot locate the “white lever” for manual flushing.I have also read about bypassing the solenoid, but I am unsure how to do it. I have not been able to locate the solenoid. The Headhunter toilet was a retrofit before we bought the bus.

I have been able to remove from the rear of the toilet all wiring and the timer box.

I have verified 12 volt power.

We really need to flush the toilet somehow, even if we cannot restore normal operation.

Any ideas for restoring function, bypassing the solenoid, or manually flushing?

I assume you have the LF 220 electric. I’m not aware of any manual flush valve. You said there was 12v, is that voltage at the flush handle? Check that your flush lever hasn’t gone bad by just bypassing the lever.

Well, thanks to my new best friend, Jeff Rowe, and my awesome girlfriend, we did some detective work and found the solenoid assembly. In the process of playing with the manual flush lever, Melissa asked “what is this red handle for?” The handle was to a valve that controlled water supply to the Headhunter. Valve turned, water flow occurred, and toilet flushed. I assume that the valve was shut off when the water pump was replaced (yes, the same water pump I replaced yesterday), and the system had stored sufficient pressure to flush the toilet a few times before the new water pump failed.

Doing plumbing work on the road: sucks! The sheer elation Melissa expressed after getting the toilet flushed: priceless! She came running out of the bus “It flushed!!! It flushed!!!! Yay!!!!!”

    Colt,

I had the pump problem and had replaced it several times before getting one that did not fail. I took Jon’s recommendation to install a small pressure tank in line to help with minimizing the pump cycling as often. And while I was doing that I installed a back up 12v pump in case it ever went out again. The toilet will flush with just the 12v pump and pressure tank. Good luck with your pump. I have been on road several times when the pump failed and it stinks…. (Pun intended). Safe travels.

Aw gee, Colt, I was going to suggest you get a long siphon hose and suck on it real hard to get the siphon started to get the water out of the toilet. Glad Malissa got her potty fixed.
