Headhunter has a variety of tank level sensors, and all the ones I have had or been familiar with have had a switch on the panel to mute an alarm.

Having said that, a lot of the Headhunter sensor issues can be attributed to the air line going from the black box usually mounted on top of the tank into and down the probe that extends into the tank.

The probe has to be clean and free of blockage. It is easily removeable. Then the connections from the black box to the probe have to be air tight. Insuring that generally fixes any issues. The noise heard when turning the sensors on is a small compressor pumping air down into the probe. When the probe is full of air only and the small compressor shuts down head pressure from the contents of the tank is what the Headhunter is reading, and translating into a display of lights showing the content level in the tank. If the tube or probe leaks a false pressure reading as a result can cause an alarm.

When the compressor is operating it makes a buzzing sound so make sure any noise you hear is an alarm or the small compressor.

The small compressor runs periodically as a means of insuring correct tank levels are displayed but in my case and likely others the sound is never noticed unless the bay with the tanks is open.

Mine makes the sound of the compressor running about every 30 minutes. In order to keep from having them run when the bus is in storage for a couple of months, I have a switch where I can shut them off. However, when I turn them back on, all 3 compressors run at once and this has tripped my circuit breaker in the second driver side bay on occasion. Reset breaker and good to go. BTW to replace one of those little Head Hunter square boxes will cost you $900!

ouch 900? thats about the frequency mine turns on but it is only the black tank…
