  • Having the BeepBeep Blues

Posted by Doug on November 27, 2014 at 11:02 am

While driving into Houston last night my Rear service air pressure guage lit up its little red light and triggred that beep-beep-beep low pressure warning .. . except .. it wasn’t .. the guage clearly showed ~100 PSI … A few miles down the road it stopped .. then started again a few miles later .. then stopped … sometimes when “stopped” the light would flash a little bit, blink on and off as if it was about to start indicating low pressure again but decide not too. Otherwise it operated normally. I pulled off and did a pressure test and found plenty of air where it was supposed to be .. and a break pump test worked as expected.

It has all the symptoms of wiring problem — but I feel I should ask, Is there any reason this guage would beep outside of a low pressure situation? Is the sensor thats feeding that in the guage itself or somewhere in the chassis .. as while looking at the pnumatic diagrams and the wiring diagrams I apparently have the wrong version of my caption midnight decoder ring on and while I can’t find an external sensor, it doesn’t mean one doesn’t exist somewhere as I can’t find the one in the guage itself either …

This is a 1999-2000 chassis with the individual air guages

    Thanks

Haha I found it .. and the problem.

The prevost manual references a bendix manual which had a picture of it. . turns out it was right in front .. i mean really right in front like at the edge next to the door. . (snake would have bit ya) Its mounted right where it gets hit with compressor oil and water when the valve gets purged. Cleaning that off seems to have made it much less beepy

Thanks for the guidence on the location! Now as to why I can’t find that sensor in the diagrams ..
