Have I got a deal for you …
Our Crestron upgrade to iPads was completed last night. We decided to return to The Promise Land aka St. Petersburg, FL. So we wrapped things up with Jeff and left at the crack of Noon.
We knew that we had to stop along the way to fill-up with Diesel.
We did have the pleasure of meeting Jon & Tom when they stopped by at ETLC today and talking about gas prices, Tom suggested that we try to get to the Speedway truck stop near to Chattanooga, TN at Exit 7 (Bonny Oaks) on I-75 (Southbound).
The price was unbelievably low and there was quite a line of trucks waiting their turn to get to the pump.
No wonder …
Diesel … $3.049 per gallon !!!!!!!!
And that is the price for Cash or Credit.
We did probably wait in line for about 20 minutes.
Nowhere else along the Interstate did the price even get close to this. Almost everywhere else, the price per gallon ranged from $3.75 to a low of about $3.30
So … if you are heading that way, take advantage of this opportunity.

I filled he dodge diesel up last night at Krogers for $2.99 a gallon (got a good discount of $0.30 a gallon. Still cost me $800 to fill it up!). Cheapest I saw diesel on the way down to Ocola today was around $3.44 cash price. The $0.10 discount got it down to $3.34. Figured I would fill up before I left Georgia so only needed half a tank.

Cheapest diesel near us in a truck stop is currently $3.19 … nice to see it dropping… but prices usually soar around the holliday seaon.

That truck stop mentioned by Ron is always the cheapest anywhere. I filled the pickup Wednesday at the Walmart near Maryville TN at $3.15. The interstate prices on I-40 have been around $3.33.

Jon, The fuel prices in TN are defenitly much cheaper then GA. Since we have been making a good number of trips this fall up to Knoxville, we useally wait till we cross over into TN on 411 to fill up (or make sure we fill up before we leave).
We will be back up there around the 11th (need to check with Jeff to see if he can fit our coach in there for a couple small fixes as well), will be interesting to see what the prices are then. Would still like to see diesel drop back down below the price of regular fuel, but I am thinking we will never see that again.

And because TN is usually the least expensive fuel it makes me realize how much I miss my long range fuel.
Our previous coach not only got great mileage, always 7.5 or more MPG, but with 298 gallons on board most of our trips could be made without refueling until we got back home.
But I will take these prices. Way better than the $50 fuel not that long ago, but not that great when compared to the $.63 we used to pay when we got the first bus.

How big is your fuel tank now?
I looked in our ‘capacity’ section in the Prevost manual and it says that we have a 230 gallon fuel tank. The computer will show a range of 1,500-1,600 mile range on fill up. That number will adjust up and down depending on what our current fuel milage that we are getting.
We haven’t filled the DEF tank yet. The manual says that it has a 16 gallon capacity.

This is almost unbelievable. The Arco in Hanford, California is $3.19 for diesel this morning.$3.19! No way I can get the bus into it and even if I could it would take forever to fill up and I would be blocking both diesel pumps. Plus I would probably have to do 4-6 seperate transactions because of limits.
The closest Pilot is $3.92, the closest Flying J is $3.75 and the closest Loves is $3.74. That is highway robbery, friends. I plan to head back toward the east Monday and I have enough fuel to get me into Arizona but it is still in the $3.60’s there.

DKO, the big boys near the interstate are always a rip off. When in AZ make sure you use the RV pumps, lower price than the truck pumps due to tax. If your on 10 I have found it cheap east of Quartzite at Pride…$3.37 the other day.

Mt current capacity is 208 gallons and the capacities as far as the amount we can pump into an empty fuel tanks is 95% of that amount.
I would guess at your rated capacity the range you are seeing might be to an empty tank amd might be a bit optimistic. You do need to observe your DEF volume on board. The way your engine is set up is that when the DEF needs to be filled it will warn you on the message center. If you choose to ignore that your coach will still run, but if you do shut down for whatever reason, upon start-up it will limit you to almost no power or speed.
The issue with the DEF system is your consumption is going to be about 1% of your fuel consumption. so 16 gallons is going to last through 1600 gallons of fuel, and if you get 6.5 MPG that is over 10,000 miles. So what? DEF has a 6 month life so for coaches with DEF it is probably prudent to limit how much DEF you do put into the tank to an amount you can reasonably expect to consume in the next 6 months.
BTW, I just grabbed the 6.5 number out of thin air. I have no idea what you can expect as your coach breaks in.
