Harvey Update to PC Family
We are back up with power as of yesterday afternoon…. we remain high and out of the water but there is significant flooding three blocks away… We set the coach up in front of the house and ran cords to our two sets of freezers and ice boxes….. we had hot water from the heaters in the house and did not lose fresh water (had 140 gallons on the coach) … we slept in the coach…
No one can adequately explain what this area is going through… trust me when we say that water is not a respector of persons… it has made no difference where you live, what your previous history in past floods has been or even past protections that have been put in place to help…. they have all beem blown away…
We have air boats and helicopters all around where we last week we were having dinner in restaurants….
Air Force One flew right over the house… from Corpus Christie where Trump landed…
You never hear the praise when the Administration does well …
Betty and I live in the Memorial area which follows along the Buffalo Bayou… it is super heavily wooded and it carries the majority of the water that is coming out of the reservoirs. It not only carries the run off of rain for 100 square miles but now, they are “releasing” 40,000 cubic feet of water per second into the bayou to preserve the integrity of the walls of the reservoirs…. this has caused significant increased flooding even today…. it is not over by far even though the rain has stopped…
My son, who is an Emergency Room Physician was in charge of the medical response of the US FEMA during the last hurricane here (IKE)… he is from Minnesota and was “recalled” to again respond …he is downtown at the large convention center and between 7 pm last night and 7 am this morning triaged 289 patients with the help of 3 para medics…. it continues today… we have not been able to get to him because of the floods… that is getting better…
There are lirterally hundreds and hundreds of private boats from all over the state and Louisiana here putting in at swollen streams and making their way to people that are stranded…. Oklahoma has a huge presence and just last night, 100 police cars from Ft Worth came in ….all volunteers…
THE RESPONSE OF THE GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORITIES HAS BEEN FANTASTIC… DO NOT BELIEVE ANY NEGATIVE PRESS IF THERE IS ANY REPORTED BY THESE CRITICS THAT ARE NOT IN THE FIGHT…
TRUMP AND THIS ENTIRE NATIONAL AND LOCAL ADMINISTRATION HAVE BEEN STERLING…

Hi Press and thank you for the update,It sounds like all is well for now but how do things look for later? Is the releasing water from the sapillway going to negatively effect you?

We are also glad to hear that you both and your family are safe and sound. The news that we have seen is very scary, it’s hard to imagine going through such severe flooding. My twin brother has a home in McKinney, TX, but is at his home in Arizona.
Texas is in our thoughts.

So glad that you & Betty made it through okay so far. We have several friends in the Pearland area who were fortunate as well, but some of their family members lost everything. You all remain in our thoughts & prayers…

Pres… your update is much appreciated and we have been more fortunate here in Lufkin… just lots and lots of rain.
We have a lot of friends that gone into Houston with their boats to help out, also guys to cook for the rescuers… everyone wants to help… it has been amazing to watch how well everything has been setup and like you said the “media” never wants to give credit to the right people.
Cheers all and please continue to pray for Houston and the surrounding areas …so many have lost everything they had.
I believe Trump is returning again in a day or so and no-one in the “media” will say a word…blows my mind.

I have four or five friends in the Houston area. All of them, except one couple, said they were high enough they didn’t expect the flooding to impact their homes although they were “flood bound” and couldn’t get out; probably like being “snow bound” up north. The last one though knew late last week or over the weekend they were going to be “sacrificed” to protect a dam. This morning they posted they’ve been told the first floor of their home has three feet of water. Much to my surprise, they were able to rent an apartment as they expect getting back to normal will take a while. They also have a daughter in the Houston whose house hasn’t been directly impacted.

Family down Corpus Christi way that dodged the bullet and south of Houston that didn’t. Prayers with you all in this mess. Heck got 2 stock trailers down Victoria way helping with livestock rescue.

Further to the update… this makes me so correctly proud of my friends… Thank you for all of your kind thoughts…
We have a Sunday School Class that I teach along with two other fellows with whom I rotate…. we have about 150 in the class… Yesterday, we held a conference call among the teachers and the SS Class Director and discussed each class member of whom we are aware and their issues as well as their ability to be self-supportive in their responses to their individual needs after this flood….
We have six whose homes flooded and other needs. We assigned out responsibilities and are providing assistance in specific situations. It is working well even after only 24 hours… We will consumate the plans in Sunday’s Sunday School session… can’t think of a better way to spend a SS class…
Additionally…I hope you will take heart in the response of this small group …. with the Lord’s help, we have also agreed as a class to rebulid one of the member’s homes entirely. This will be a large undertaking and the member himself will lead in the construction but we will provide additional labor and, of course, the financial ability to accomplish the task… God is Good…

As you said, God is Good and I’ll simply add God is Good Indeed! We see and read so many bad things and your post reminds us that it ain’t all bad! A hand up is a wonderful thing like a good word, a smile and a hug!
I also take your post as meaning that you and Betty are going to be ok and that in and of itself is very good news!

The North Carolina Baptists On Mission feeding unit is set up at the First Baptist Church in Nederland, TX near Beaumont, TX. Karen and I are heading there Thursday as part of the feeding crew. This unit can turn out 30,000 meals per day so you can see we will be busy. http://www.baptistsonmission.org

Our area is drying out but the traffic in the area is unbelieveable due to road closures that persist. A simple two mile commute may now be 15 miles in heavy traffic…
For those who are following the many issues… Houston is 50 miles inland and has an elevation of 45 feet above sea level. The issue is that on the North of the city, the elevation may not be more than 65 feet 30 miles away….that is probably highly inaccurate but you get the idea… the high points here are the humps in the freeway… whenever we have heavy, heavy rain, there are basically a limited number of routes the water takes on its journey to the Gulf. These water routes cut across the entire area and get expanded far beyond their banks… SOOOO, the lowest point where the various bridges cross these water routes dictates the last point of clearance for traffic…. one flooded bridge stops all traffic… simple enough.
The Beltway 8 Toll Road that surrounds the city at a radius of 14 miles has 30 feet of standing water in the lower underpasses… all of these areas will have to be cleared of water and all of the “walls” of the underpasses “tested” for safety before these lanes can in fact be used again.. (weeks and weeks) … if this does not give an example of the issues, nothing does…
Thanks to everyone for their support, prayers and for the many volunteers who have come to this city from afar… My son is returning to Minneapolis today after serving as head of critical care at the Brown Convention Center.. they are still seeing 200 patients an evening… all of their unit is from Minnesota…. at least they get to get back to their occupations… this is all free.. no compensation so when they leave their places of business such as my son’s Emergency Hospital Partnership, its all au gratus.
Not to belabor this,,, but the Unit arrived from Dallas in a 50 truck convoy that took 13 hours for a normal 5 hours trip…BUT THEY TOOK ON RIFLE FIRE INTO THEIR BUSSES along the way and the ARMY had to set up a parameter on every corner of riflemen set in place to return fire which they did… On one occassion the Houston Police Dept had a fire fight with a nut on the freeway… The Army went if front of them setting up a pathway and they would pass… they then waited for the ARMY to reset and then they progressed past them again…
People can be really hate filled…. inexplicable.
