  • Hague Watermax system – Filter change

Posted by Dorel on June 9, 2015 at 11:42 am

Hello, looking for advise on how to change or need to change the two filters in photo, there is 3/8″ clearance on the bottom, no way take them off…Would someone install them so close whem minimum requirement is 3″? Since all the water coming into the coach is filtered, do I need to replace these filters? Or since I cannot, bypass them if there is a way?

    D & C

From the photo. that looks like a Reverse Osmosis system. It appears that you have a RO membrane container across the top. If this is the case, the RO membrane container is usually held in place by two plastic clips and usually is just a pop-in pop-out of the clips. If you are able to pop the membrane container up and out, then you will find that the metal plate (much like an ‘L’ bracket) that the filter housings are attached to, is held to the wall by 2 screws that go through slotted holes in the bracket. Loosen the screws (no need to remove them) and slide the bracket, either up or to the side depending on the orientation of yout slots and lift the until off the wall. Carefully remove the plastic lines, labeling them so that they can be replaced correctly. It appears that your connections require you to press down on the small retainer and the tubing should slip out. (there may be a small red colored plastic safety clip that must be removed before you can press the release) To reinstall the plastic lines, just push fully into place and reinstall the red safety clip. Once you have the unti out, you can easily unscrew the filter containers and replace the filters, then reverse the process.

Good luck. You will soon learn to enjoy the RFID portion of the Prevost experience. (Repair or Fix It Daily)

Good grief, that is one screwed up location for RO. Never saw one before with those big filters, usually have 3 skinny filters.

You boy’s sure it’s RO and not a softener?

From a cursory scan of your posted photo, it looks like you have a small white plastic, blue handle valve on a yellow plastic line clipped to the back wall. The yellow line should run to the right most filter body. If so, then that would be your main feed cut off. Shut that valve and you will still probably have some minor pressure on the line as it is possibly feeding your ice maker, a spigot at the gally sink and/or possibly an ice maker. If you can bleed the pressure from one of those sources, you should be good to go, or just unscrew one of the filter cases to let it leak down. There is a strong possibility that you have a small one gallon pressure tank downstream from your RO unit somewhere. This should have a check valve that will prevent a backflow, but since I did not install this unit, I cannot guarantee that to be the case. At any rate, you should lose no more than a gallon of water, so have a small bucket and some spounges, or other soaking material handy. Filter change not a big deal, but your’s is just in a really funky location. Going back together with new filters, a little vaseline on the filter container ‘o’ rings make them screw on easier guaranteeing a good seal.
