H3-45 Water Leak Issue
I just purchased a beautiful H3-45 with 40K miles, while doing some minor remodeling we found a water leak that seems to have been there for awhile since there was black mold and the coach was stored indoors. The leak seems to be coming from the top panel where it hinges/locks into the curved section of the roof between the two driverside slides. We have ruled out the awnings above with the water test. We are trying to determine the best way to address the issue and keep interior removal to a minimum. I was posting this to see if anyone else has gone through this experience and gain insight on how the issue was fixed. Plus, I wanted to find out if there was a way to determine if any other area of the coach is leaking besides a air test.

For me I would do the air test, what converter and what year, photo,s would be helpful, Gary

If the coach has over the road air you can open the system up to outside air , run the over the road AC with all windows closed and that will pressurize the coach. Then it is just a matter of squirting soapy water in the area of the leak and looking for bubbles.
If it doesn’t have OTR, What Prevost does is attach a high volume fan or blower to the toll window and pressurize the coach. Use duct tape to seal roof vents and any openings to insure you blow bubbles at the leak.
Roof leaks drive you crazy because they can originate quite a distance from where they show up.

You can pressurize the coach and then track down the leaks with soapy water. Here’s how Prevost does it in Jacksonville:

There have been a lot of problems of grout failure in showers,I would also investigate that,Donnie Myers in Sanford,FL has repaired many Vantari coaches with this problem.

It’s a 05 Marathon. I am working with Prevost and Marathon which they are very eager to help. I really appreciate the replies. The more educated I can get the better decisions I can make to solve the problem quickly.

I’ve been talking to Gary at DFW location and he has been really helpful. I am currently at Prevost this morning and they are going to start removing the 4″ piece of trim at the top. Hopefully we can see something behind the strip. I am going to ask them to do a complete air test, on the rest, of the coach to make sure I don’t have any other areas.

Thank you very much. We are really excited about the Marathon Coach. We had a little set back but it can be fixed. I’ve been very impressed with the Marathon conversion and the professionalism at DFW location.

update: We found the leak and Prevost in DFW did a great job. It’s repaired and heading back to Marathon to finish up the fun modifications.

Where was it leaking?

It was behind the trim piece that hinges into the upper roof section. It seems there was a gap between the structure and where the panel attaches.
