I had mine done at Prevost Nashville earlier this year. They had to slide out the motor, but no big deal. I didn’t think I needed it, but it made a noticeable improvement in smoothness at idle and seems to run better overall.

Sliding the motor out is really no big deal.

If you have jakes, you probably do not have enough room to remove valve cover, although you may be ok on an H. Usually, there is an engine access cover in the bedroom (assuming bedroom is at rear) floor which can be removed.

I had mine done at about 100k. I noticed no difference in engine performance but, obviously, this would largely depend on how far out of adjustment you tolerances were.

I’ve just had camshaft, all rocker arms and fuel injectors replaced on mine @ 280k and many people I’ve spoken to recently suggest running the overhead every 100k.

Prevost told me every 150k miles, but I agree with every 100K.

just finished doing this on 1997 XL marathon. No way would I want to do this without getting access thru bedroom. Not familiar with the H and valve cover to closet. Marathon had a removable section of the engine closeout but i had to remove the dresser drawers and dresser framework first. Now that I have done it, I could do it in less than an hour.

The valve adjustments are fairly easy, the injectors need more care to make sure you have caliper in correct place. I would recommend spending the few dollars to order the feeler gages and injector height tool.

I agree with John. Tearing that bedroom apart is an adventure the first time. Difficult but doable. Local Interstate Diesel had quoted me $350 to run the top end unless access was an issue. The experienced tech that did the work nearly kissed my foot for the exposure and was careful to keep things clean. Took it home and put it back together. Longsuffering spouse nearly fainted at the site of the S60 top end in the bedroom but recovered after things were back together. Tech said no issues and settings required little adjustment but comes under preventive stuff. Glad I did it. Mike

Looking in the engine bay above the diesel I do not see any access panels. From the inside, the bed is directly over the diesel. I will need to pull the rug back under the bed to see if there is anything visible there. If there is, the bed lifts up on pneumatic struts and would give ample room to work. More likely all I will see is solid plywood floor.

my DD60 has the split valve cover because of the Jake and there is enough clearance to easily get the top valve cover off. I looked at an earlier post where it was mentioned that a few used a DD shop in Florida that does it from the curb side inside the engine bay. I may just deal with this on the backside of my trip to Connecticut. I am planning to spend a few days in Florida and Tennessee on the return.

Detroit Diesel In Ocala, FL did my valve adjustment through the curb side eng door a couple of years ago. I also have a jake brake.
