  • H3-45 Upper Control Arms

Posted by Alex on July 9, 2025 at 10:53 pm

Trying to sort thru fact from fiction relating to 2001 era h3-45 upper control arms. I read on another site that that era upper control arm bushings are susceptible to early wear due to dropping the front low while trying to level out at parked sites. They further indicated that the 2004+ upper control arms are more robust and there is a way to retrofit a 2001 to use 2004 upper control arms. Does anyone have any knowledge / information on this?

    Thanks

    Alex:

Camper Joe who is no longer participating in this site but is a go to Guru when it comes to bus chassis’s, always said that LONG TERM lowered position can cause early deterioration of upper control arms.

I.E. Always store the coach in the up position or put jack stands under the frame so if the air deflates while in storage the front A-arms don’t end up sitting in the (not normal) upwards position.

I have been trying to get to the bottom of why my curb side steer tire continues to wear on the outer edge. In January of 24, I installed new Michelins and had Prevost inspect the entire suspension system and hubs, replaced my upper control arms and did a 3 axel alignment to fix the issue. Worked for the first 8K miles then started to see the same wear on the new tires. (About 5years back new arms were installed as well). I have been living with a slow air leak that has been causing the Front to completely drop after several days, as well as having to drop my front to level out in several sites during travels. While in storage, I wouldn’t re-air up unless I had to move her or do some work on her. I guess I need to find that leak and ensure she stays close to ride height in the future.

I looked up the control arms for both years and the 2004s have larger bushings, so the open question remains can they be retrofitted and what does it take.

    Thanks

I just got off the phone with Prevost Tech. ( Eric is a great source for help and information) and the bottom line is NO on the retrofit
