  • H3 45 Driver toll window motor replacement

Posted by Archived on May 14, 2012 at 5:27 pm

I am going to replace the window motor for the small driver toll opening on an H3. The cost of the part is nominal ( 158 ). The labor is another story. Access to the motor is difficult and depending on what all the converter has put in the way, the time estimate could be 4-6 hours..Do the math. Has anyone got some tips on this project besides buying a new bus. I have ordered the new motor and do not have eyes on it yet to even get a feel for the project.

    Les,

I have no experience in changing the motor, but I would start here: http://prevostparts.volvo.com/technicalpublications/en/manuel.asp

I would pull up the maintenance manual section that covers that repair and see what is involved. Many times I have referred to the information Prevost makes available and found that information to be very valuable in defining the extent of the effort required to make a repair.

It is likely to be in the maintenance manual section covering the body.

Send it back or refuse it!

You can get it at your gm dealer or

    eBay a whole lot cheaper!

1995-2005 gm jimmy or s10 blazer. Should run about 60 bucks. Brand new

Where are you located? I had to take mine out and repair it, so having done it, maybe I could be of assistance, if I happen to be in your area. I am travelling from Salt Lake to Houston between now and May 21.

As you can see by the number of days since I first asked the question, this has been a difficult job. Obviously, my time has not been anywhere near continuous on this job, but even at a skilled shop this has to be several hours. This motor is riveted (4) to the regulator and I seriously doubt that any mechanic could drill out these four rivets by accessing from the service door outside and below the window with the unit in place. Having realized this, the driver seat and the interior panel below the window had to be removed for access and removal of the motor/regulator unit.

I would definitely recommend to anyone taking this job to a shop, that they get a ” not more than” estimate.

No Jon, pictures did not occur to me. The only additional info that occurs to me is that some coaches may have an access panel next to your left knee area that may allow some visual to the motor area.
