H3-40 lower panel removal
Posted by Tom on March 23, 2023 at 11:38 amHello all, I have a damaged lower panel in the bay where the generator radiator is installed.
I am looking for videos or diagrams of how these panels are removed.
I also believe that all the panels are held on by double sided rubber adhesive strps in addition to mounting hardware.
Are there any videos or diagrams showing this operation?
Can’t wait to repair the panels and hit the road this Spring (2023).
Cheers to all, I love watching all the videos the PC members have posted.

Lower bay fiberglass panels generally have a couple screws behind a decorative trim, as well as windshield style urethane holding them in place. sometimes they use double sided tape to hold the panels in place while the urethane dries.

Hi, thank you for that input.
I have been scrolling for an hour for any YouTube videos hoping to find videos of removing the panels.

Take pictures prior to removing. makes it a lot easier depending on the paintwork design. always good to save the pieces for paint match as well. not a 40 but these pics should be similar. screws in the center rib then a pic of the urethane holding the panel in place. if you have the center trim remove that then the screws. then the lower panel basically has to be broken off. you may be able to get a long scraper or windshield knife behind the panel without completely destroying it, but the plastic gets brittle and as long as nothing else gets damaged in the process your good

Good grief, I had no idea that removal of the panels would mean most likely further damage.
I believe that the two sided rubber has lost it ability to stick to anything due to it’s age.
I will try and remove the chrome strips that I assume are clipped into place to gain access to the mounting screws for the panel.
Thanks very much for the images, helps my brain.
Cheers.

Now I paranoid of breaking things.
What is the method to remove the chrome strips covering the panel mouunting screws?
Cheers, Tom.

They are generally held in place with the same urethane/double sided tape. just be cautious not to bend/crease the trim removing it. its not a difficult job to do just a tedious.

I have the lights in the stainless steel part that covers the screws and one is burned out. So do you have to remove that SS part to replace the small sealed beam light? I am guessing it is a sealed beam. If anyone knows I will appreciate it.

Send a picture, seems like some of the featherlites had access from the interior and some you have to pull the housing for the bulb out from the door face side. i don’t believe they had to remove the rub rail trim section to replace bulbs.

I had a Corvette worked on once and the body shop used a heat gun (carefully) to soften glue then remove panels.
