  • H-Series Windows

Posted by Corey on December 22, 2013 at 11:54 am

I know this has probably been addressed before, but I’m not smart enough to find it. We’re buying a ’99 shell Vantare and the drivers and both entry door windows are fogged. Repairable ? Suncoast ? the drivers looks like it may be etched and I assume if that’s the case, it probably has to be replaced. Any info appreciated.

    Corey or George,

My experience is related solely to the XL but I believe the H windows are also adhered with Sikaflex. It is not a big deal to replace the ones on the XL and presume similar procedures apply to the H. Cut the window out, clean the old Sikaflex out of the frame, and install the new glass. If the window has not been etched some shops can split the two pieces, clean the glass and reseal them filling with argon. If the glass is etched it is not repairable so a new glass goes in.

Tom had his window replaced and I expect he can do a better job of explaining than I can. He is on the road so he may not respond right away.

Just had foggy left side window replaced. Ordered new glass from Prevost and was in stock. Shipped and had local automotive glass ship cut out the old sikaflex and replace. Prevost will need your VIN# and make sure you have them include two tubes of sikaflex. Job for one man took abourt 3 hours to cut out old, remove and replace glass… used about 1 1/2 tubes of sikaflex… professional glass suction cups is a must for this job in removing and reinstalling new glass. Believe glass cost is about $700..

    George,

Suncoast will only deal with flat glass, any curve at all they reject. If you have them do anything, don’t leave for a minute and be hands on or you’ll have scratched paint or worse. This time of year will have you setting in their parking lot for 4 or 5 days.

I had my side window replaced at Prevost, the one above the driver door and it was only, hold on to your hat, $18000..

    Corey,

I had a local glass professional replace my upper door window with laminated glass he cut to shape. It took him about an hour to cut out the fogged, etched insulated glass and replace it with the piece he made. $85 YMMV

Prevost has a replacement insulated piece that I believe runs about $900.

Suncoast declined to work on it saying they might break the glass removing it. They’re not too keen to work on Prevosts.

    HTH

BTW, if you need a screen for a canopy window in the door, I had some made. $80 + shipping.
