Grey water air
Posted by Jim on January 26, 2014 at 9:41 amhi all, I have a small leak in the air line going to the grey water dump valve. The part says “Mac” on it with three air lines. It is model 45A-AA2-DDCA-1BA, 12 VDC. It delivers air to the grey water valve. When the valve is open it is a very slow leak. Larger when I close it. Any ideas? Where can I order this part?
Thanks JimJim

I don’t know how to post a pic here but I can email it to someone who could post it.

hey Jim! The best place to get a new Mac valve where they Make it right on site is Buchanan automation…800-426-8313… They made two for us an over nighted them lickity split!

BTW, the valve itself it very hot to the touch. I’m ordering a new one on Monday but wondering if I should take it off or at least take off the two wires going to it.

Jim, solenoid valves are typically rated for intermittent or continuous duty. If you have one getting very hot I suggest the first thing you do is determine if it has power to the coil at all times, and if it does is the coach designed that way?
If it is supposed to have power to the coil at all times then you need to insure the valve is rated for continuous duty. I suspect it is not supposed to have power to it at all times. That is a case where ordering for continuous duty is no problem, but the reverse could be.

Jon,
I believe the valve should be intermittent, only supplying power when the switch is pressed to operate the valve. The one next to it for the black tank is cool to the touch.

I’d check into that to find out why it is hot. Something isn’t right.

the reason it is hot is because I’ve left the grey dump valve open. That means the selanoid was “charged” to keep it open. It cooled immediately when I closed the valve. That being said, it must just be a leak in the naive so a new one should take care of it. Thanks all

called Buchanan, they had me call distributor in Tampa who told me 6 week lead time if it has to be made…. Wow, any other suggestions. I have a pic if I knew how to post it. They do not stock it because it is a “modified” valve

At the bottom of the list of topics on the forum is a thread for how to upload photos.

I found one in the country in Grand Rapids Michigan, they are shipping it to me. Buchanan will make one but they are quoting a 6 week lead time.

These valves are common use. In all kinds off applications.. Our local air brake/truck supply guys can cross them over to stock items. notice unused ports on valve in picture.. A 12 volt elect over air– valve like that would be on the shelf at probably 10 dealers in our area..Your picture to a good parts guy could save you big custom build bucks.. ck out norgren 12 volt valve on ebay for comparrison.. It has a function drawing as you see on valve with port options with some blocked off. FWIW Bob
