  • Greetings from Silver City NM

Posted by Ronald on November 7, 2018 at 10:23 pm

After having spent several weeks in Albuquerque during the Balloon Fiesta, we have restarted our trek South and are now in Silver City, NM.

    We are staying at the

    Rose Valley RV Ranch

Nothing fancy. Very natural settings. Long and wide pull-through sites with FHU, 50/30 amps. $30/night.

Nice back-in and pull-in sites, too.

Very quiet and serene setting. An old cemetery abuts the RV park. It makes for quiet neighbors.

The RV park abuts open lands. Privately owned land but owners allow you to visit. Bring your dog!

    Next stop, Las Cruces, NM.

Isn’t Silver City, NM and interesting town with an interesting history?

While you’re there, take a day trip south through Deming (Interstate) and further south to Columbus, NM and Pancho Villa State Park. Its a New Mexico state park that is named for an international terrorist (Pancho Villa) who invaded the US in the middle of the night and attacked the US Army garrison at Columbus and terrorized the citizens of Columbus. Eight soldiers and two civilians were killed along with a sizable number of Pancho’s bandits.

There is an interesting museum at the state park. I had heard of Pancho Villa and the fact that Gen Black Jack Pershing chased Pancho and his bandidos into Mexico. The museum goes in detail of the background, who was involved, etc.

Then take a trip to Puerto Palomas, Mexico and cross the border. Check out the Pink Store. If you need any dental work or prescription drugs there are of dentists and pharmacies that are ready to take care of your needs.

    Enjoy the trip!

I have had a leaky trailer tire for a few weeks and decided it would be a great idea to have it fixed. The last time I had aired it up, by chance, the leak was right on top of the tire and I could feel it by hand. Amazing what a nail can do to your tire.

Anyways, I read good things about Big O Tires online and called them to find out if they repair tires. Yes, we do. So if I drop it off today, can I have it back tomorrow? Well, if you drop it off now, we can have it fixed in 45 minutes. Wow.

So I went about taking the wheel off of the trailer. Only problem was, that I could not break the 8th lug loose. So wimpy me goes back to calling Big O. Do you offer road service? Where are you? Less than 5 minutes from your location. OK, we will send somebody over with a truck.

Lug nut came off and wheel was taken to the shop. 45 minutes later, another guy shows up with the fixed tire. Put it on and tells me, it is $250 for this job. What??? I could not believe what I had just heard.

I went to their shop later on to pay and found it to be pretty big with tractor trailers parked outside. They are a Michelin tires dealer and sell other brands and provide general tire services.

Anyways, I will add them to the list.

As a matter of fact, my slidemobile will be heading west next year Bernie. I need a really cheap site at Polson so I can continue funding my reserve fund for the freaking slide that I’m sure is to come. Can we park in the storage area and just live in your air conditioned stacker?

Tom, next time just go all the way to 4 slides and then you won’t have to keep doing this no slide, 1 slide, etc. Think of all the work you will save transferring all the stuff from coach to coach….. Plus all the work you do to zero out each one you get. I am sure you can find at least one somewhere that will meet your requirements.

Tom told me when I buy a Smart phone, and actually turn it on he will buy a four slide coach.

But if I do buy the phone just to watch him go through the gyrations of selling his coach with slide and looking for one with slides my chances of every seeing a penny of the dues money goes right out the window.
