    Jon and Tom,

It’d be great if you can have your webmaster replace your default forum search facility with Google Custom Search or add it in addition. Google Custom Search is free and easy to install and it’s very effective at searching thru all the forum threads. You can customize it to your hearts content. You can tell it where to look and where not to look. You can have it display ads or you can choose not to. I’m sure your webmaster can figure it out.

    Hi David,

I use the google search personally and it’s a great program. The downside is we would have to opt out of the advertising, it would drive folks nuts and that requires a pricing plan based on usage. It all comes down to expense and if it’s reasonable, we can do it. As an example, if we do the 2500 plan, that gives us 50,000 searches. What happens when the 50K is exceeded is the question.

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe we can pull it off. Or, we can raise your dues.:)

Thanks for the reply Tom. On my site the ads aren’t really an issue. Google Custom Search only displays one or two at the top and often only on the first results page. Folks, try it on my WanderlodgeGurus Forum Website; for instance, type in “Blue Bird”. You’ll see a google ad displayed at the top, or type in “Prevost” and see the lack of ads. Often times there’s no ad, sometimes just one, and on occassion more than one; these ads are usually on topic. What we get in return is a search engine that really works. I agree though that only the free unlimited version is worth it; there’s no way I’d pay google for the service.
