Posted by Art on March 8, 2019 at 10:01 am

We have been a FMCA member for quite a few years, Last year on our 1st trip we signed up for Good Sams for fuel discount and towing. Is there any reason that I need both, When we had the Foretravel MH we signed up for FMCA, For some reason I thought I needed FMCA for My Prevost account??? any advice Thanks

I have been a Prevost owner for about 29 years. The only time it was towed was after a bus fire, and the cost was covered by insurance.

So you can guess my response. If you have a well maintained coach you are betting you will need a tow, and the insurance company will bet you will not. Guess who has the odds stacked in their favor?

Jon are you a FMCA member or Good Sams member?

I have been a member of both for 15 -20 years. It is very important for me to get a 10 off my campground fee.

I use the PC Loves card for fuel which can’t be beat, PC Michelin Tire Program for tires and Coachnet should I ever need a tow.

I was an FMCA member until it started shrinking and allowing trailers.

I was a FMCA member for many years (F192…..) but dropped them when they decided to be “just another Good Sam” and allow trailers and 5th wheels. Not a snob thing just now a 2nd magazine with a lot of info I have no interest in.

The PFJ card gives a discount off the cash price plus you can use your CC. They are also now doing pay at the pump to save time and add convenience.

Being a member of a club full of let’s say coach enthusiasts to protect the innocent it was a rule that you must be a member of FMCA to be in the club. There are multiple reasons the club leans on but the biggest is the insurance for an event. I asked if everyone knew that in the case of some type of claim did they realize that the FMCA insurance would only come into play if first your coach, homeowners, & or umbrella policy didn’t or your coverage got used up. Response- Oh no the FMCA insurance covers you right off the bat. Ok whatever you say. And let’s see now what could really happen at a gathering of coach enthusiasts. At any rate to not drag on & on if you attend a bunch of FMCA rallies & are in to it by all means send in your money. But in my case don’t force me to be a member of something that really has no benefits for my money. As far as reading material I got the world wide web. I do have Coachnet & am thankful as I did have an event that was not avoidable with normal coach upkeep. As for roadside assistance from Good Sam’s there’s no way there’s any money left from our dues because they spend it all on weekly mailings to people like me who aren’t interested. Do all of you get these same mailings?

I had coach net but when my former agency went out of the motor coach business and I tried to find coach net I somehow concluded that coach net was no longer available. I then got the roadside coverage through FMCA. I used the coach net once when I got stuck and was very satisfied. If coach net is still out there where do I find it? Probably a dumb question, but is it still available?

    Thanks for any info.

I have had Good Sam for many years and it has been hit and miss with them. From the stories I read, Coach-Net has similar problems at times. Good Sam did come through on reimbursing me for our bus tow in Houston. I was surprised, but very pleased. That will keep me paying dues another year.

Twice in the last couple of years, I had a break in a 1/4″ airline in the compartment below my seat. We heard it both times while going down the road. Both times I made it to a safe place before having to pull over. Once I was in a Pilot Truck Stop on the phone with Good Sam when I noticed the Pilot Service Truck parked there with a big sign with something like, No Call Out Fee.

Why mess with Good Sam for 2-3 hours when all they are going to do is pay the fee for the guy to come out, IF they can find someone? I walked over to the service truck, the guy had me ready to go in less than 10 minutes and was glad to get a little cash for lunch money.

He made sure to remind me, they have no fee to drive to a breakdown, only the fee for the actual service. Is that the same for all Pilot service trucks? I do not know, but for two of them, that was the case.

The next week I bought some 1/4″ fittings and learned how to fix a simple leak myself. Now I will probably never have another leak or break in a 1/4″ line.

This discussion is kind of empty without someone posting the cost of this protection.

FMCA membership is cheap $50 a year or $135 for 3 years just membership. Good Sam’s membership and roadside Towing-multiple Vehicles-all family members-roadside service $219 a year

Wow! Looking back over the last several years, it looks like I have paid anywhere from $79-$119 a year for roadside at Good Sam. As soon as I learned that I do not have to keep my Good Sam membership to have roadside, I let it expire. I do not stay in Good Sam parks or any parks for that matter enough to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the info and roger on the Google.

I think that I Googled it, but maybe not. If I did I’m sure that I didn’t put the dash (-) in it.

    Thanks again.

Based on an average of the two rates posted I would have spent $4,611 for 29 years of coverage and would have never had to use the coverage.

I don’t know how others feel, but based on what I have seen, and posts about towing damage I will do anything possible to avoid seeing my coach towed.
