  • Girard Anemometer

A couple months ago I lost my Girard Anemometer in some trees.

Replaced it yesterday, tested it, and was one of the easiet fixes you can do. I normally don’t ever leave my awning open when I leave the RV anyway, but it’s extra piece of mind.

When testing the Anemometer, I did notice that it takes around 5 seconds of winds over 20mph to get the awning to retract.

From personal experience I can tell you in less than 5 seconds you can have your awning wrapped up around the roof. It was a calm day in Colorado Springs many years ago and we were having lunch with the awning out. The awning arms were ripped out of the side of the coach, and then the entire awning with the arms hanging free started banging up and down before I could even get out of the coach. By the time I got out 4 other Prevost owners who were walking by had gotten hold of the awning roll, but not before one of the arms had jammed itself between the roof and one of the air horns.

I am sure the safety they provide is better than nothing, but I now know that period of unexpected wind gusts came on instantly and if the awning hads not been held down by the guys when it was we could have had sever body damage or broken windows. That was a manual ZipDee awning and neither it or the latest model awnings would have been retracted fast enough.

    Yep!

In many respects, I much prefer my Zip Dee Window Awnings … which I usually don’t retract unless the winds get over 30mph.

    Tim,

In the awning control box there is an adjustable pot for sensitivity. clockwise for less—-counter clockwise for more. 1 click changes sensitivity about 25%.
