Generator Run Time
When dry camping – any rule of thumb on how long to run a generator before shutting down to check fluid levels? Also servicing requirements for maximum hours between oil changes? fuel filter changes? length of time for coolant flush and / or other needed servicing?

My genset is a PowerTech with a Kabota engine. I pull all my service at 100 HRS. Once a year altenator belt, coolant and air filter unless I have been in dusty conditions.
Most of the companies will provide manuals on their web site if you can get there. I don’t use mine much so I don’t need a lot of service. Depends on the condition under which it operates but the 100 hours will do in most cases.

I have run my gen and a/c’s for 72 hours straight at Road Atlanta in the summer. I used to change my oil at the recommended 100 hour interval, but after switching to synthetic and having an oil analysis done at 100 hours, I now go 200-400, whatever is convenient. As far as oil consumption, like any engine, you should check frequently until you become familiar with it’s habits. I’ve never added oil to my gen between changes even as long as 400 although I do check.

My routine has been 100 hours, but with a long run at Oshkosh 1 year I went 170 hours. My Kubota and Yanmar powered equipment calls for 250 hours so I don’t think you have to be partricularly concerned fi you pich any interval up to 250 hours.

Since Kohler now calls for 250 Hours oil changes I try to do it between75-150 but once a year I go to Louisville in August and I just ran 193 hours while there.When I got home I changed air,oil and fuel filters and of course the oil,the belt had about 450 hours on it and it was cracked every inch or so and it got replaced also.

When on the road, I run 24/7 for a week or more.
Oil level never shows more than a pint low
