Jeff,
Where did you get the voltage regulator? Thermostat?

Running with the thermostat removed may cause the water to circulate too fast to cool while in the radiator. Try using a 160 degree thermostat. This is an issue on a fair amount of different water cooled applications.

Also, there are 2 types of thermostats, a blocking and a non blocking. A blocking is used if there is a bypass hose so some water always is moving thru the water pump. A non blocking is used if there is no bypass hose.
You can use a non blocking in either application if you are unsure.

I got mine at my local kubota tractor place. Just take number down off side. Napa might be able to get it. Didn’t help mine after change out. Going to replace water pump and 160 degree therostat today and see if that helps. Heck mine (15 KW) only has 388 hours on it since new in 1991. Never have used it and when I have in 90 degree + weather has always shut down. Blower runs. Also had a shop look at it several years ago and they cut new vents in floor and added another pusher fan and checking the large one sucking air though. .

Glen: WOW! That isn’t much time. Have you trought about backflushing the cooloing system? Pulling the radiator to see if its all plugged up with gunk or jello? Does the generator have a coolant temp gauge? If not, I would put go back to the manufacturer and find out where one should be put. Its like there is a tapped hole with a plug in it for the sending unit.

Yeah Dick have a coolant gauge inside (electronic) and unit has always shut down in hot summer form kill switch. Blower runs and have hit with infrared gun. Had somebody pull radiator and clean (supposedly) when they r&red unit a few years back for heating problems. Mines a pita to get (radiator) to but gonna do it after I install new water pump and thremostst. Pulled old one off and it looked like new. Yep looked today and unit looks new, no dirt and 366 hours. Had 80 when I bought coach years ago. Just one of the things I have going on with this puppy.

I would suggest you look at all coolant hoses, paying attention to suction side of water pump.
What might be the problem is a delaminated hose happening on inside wall ? Heat causes flex and allows the interior lining to limit coolant flow.
Someone might have removed the wire coil installed to prevent this or was just omitted along generator life. One way to test my suggestion is installing wire coil on suction side, then run gen. If problem disappears then replace.
I read Mikee’s 2 posts…. good ideas as usual. I’ll add one thing. Could t-stat been installed upside down ? Don’t laugh too loud…I’ve seen it, trust me.

Hoses okay. Thermostat I pulled right side up. Think my coach is haunted. Gonna flush first and then pull radiator next and replace. Also will put fans in front like auto/trucks have. I will get this if my health holds up but feeling mighty weak from the strain.
