That’s one downside to the way CC did their gens instead of a slide out. It will likely have to come out and best option is to have a forklift available. I know over the years I’ve heard removing the gen isn’t that big a deal, so hope it goes easy for you.

If you are going to pull the radiator yourself, as a solo worker having handled a lot of very heavy stuff on my coach myself I don’t have any fear about doing the removal, but do make sure if you opt to do it you have a solid game plan.

I have seen the installation you describe and once you have the generator unsecured you would be amazed how easy it is to work the generator out onto a 2X6 platform using nothing more than levers, or small rollers like the olden days of using plank and rollers to move very heavy oblects. The key is to take your time, don’t leave anything to chance, and take advantage of the fact you can raise and lower and tip the coach to get it to do a lot of the work for you.

I have used a very small 500# capacity motor cycle jack to move my water and holding tanks around, I have moved my complete entertainment center on a creeper with 4X4 blocks to build it up to the correct height, and I have used a rolling work cart to get my alternator to the right height to slide the old one out and the new one in. For my 170# batteries I just make slides out of 2X6 planks and push and pull them. My point is that there is no need to use brute strength and the job is greatly simplified if you use levers, short sections of small diameter round rod or pipe, a come-along, or even an application of grrease to make stuff slide.

If you opt to have someone with a fork truck do the job just remember they can do a lot of damage pretty quick if they are a little careless so I would watch them like a hawk and stop them the moment I felt uncomfortable.

Thanks for the guidance… I plan to have a mechanic do this job. I will have a proper lift or fork lift available. It was so stupid for the installation to have been done like this. The rest of the coach has been so great….

My 2002 CC is on a slide. If possible add one while your gen is out. It makes everything so easy I actually enjoy servicing my unit. My 6’4″ 250lb frame can even (uncomfortably) get to the battery and the remote radiator.

Making a slide is on half of the equation.

The bays have a plywood floor and some structure at the perimeter, but not necessarily where a slide will be secured to or through the floor.

It would be a good idea to insure that when the weight of the generator is cantilevered out from the bay opening the rear part of the slide supporting it has an attachment through the floor into some wieght distributing devices or structure. Depending on how far out the generator will slide will determine the amount of force the rear slide attachment bolts or fasteners have to carry. It is going to be substantial.
