Generator operating Temp
Just got back from our “Genuine Shakdown” trip from Livermore CA to Alcoa Tn. Went to Jeffs for some items and ran into a handfull of little problems along the way.
One – is the ol’e generator smokes thing. I know the standard prescription is a few hours of big loads to clear up the smoke….. which is harder to do that it would seem.
But I also noticed that at no time did the coolant temp ever go above 140. (According to the techlink readout)
That seems low. I would have expected it to be more like 190.
What temp is everyone else seeing for coolant temp on your generator? We have the 20K Kohler with a Yanamr engine.

Mine runs around 160 Walt.

just ran mine for 15 hours straight. Never got over 160 and at times I had all four A/Cs on.

Have run it as long as 96 hrs continuous….160. Geo.

I have a Kohler 20k that does not go over 140
The radiator is behind the front bumper with a home
size squirrel cage and circulating pump that runs whenever
the gen is running.I figured with the volume of hose and time
to cool was the reason. However it does not smoke at that temp

Mine, after start up goes to 180. Then thermostat opens and it runs 177-178.

Martin with a Yanmar engine and it runs 160-170 all the time.

So most people are around 160 – still feels kinda low but clearly normal.
What’s weird about our situation is that sometimes there is no smoke at all. And sometimes there is a lot…. and I mean A LOT.

I had that happen on a previous coach. Turned out, the air intake hose going to the air filter was to close to the wall insulation , and that came loose and would restrict the air which caused a lot of black smoke at times.
